CBU WOMEN MAKE HISTORY AT WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The California Baptist women's cross country team made history en route to a second straight conference title, finishing in the top five individual spots for the first perfect score in WAC cross country history. Senior Anett Somogyi, who was named Athlete of the Year following the race, won the individual title for a second straight season with a time of 21:18.00. Her four fastest teammates were right behind her as Anna Mate, Andrea Kolbeinsdottir, Fruzsina Ladanyi and Emili Renaud rounded out the top five for the historic score. Utah Valley duo Savannah Neuberger and Maggie Zwahlen rounded out the First Team All-WAC performers, finishing in sixth and seventh place respectively. CBU head coach Adam Tribble was named WAC Coach of the Year while Kolbeinsdottir took home WAC Freshman of the Year honors.
 
UVU MEN WIN FIFTH WAC TITLE
Led by senior Kevin Lynch, the Utah Valley Wolverines held off California Baptist to earn the men's team title by three points over the Lancers. Lynch won his second straight individual title with a time of 24:48.72, nearly 10 seconds quicker than second-place Abraham Chirchir of UT Rio Grande Valley. NM State's Michael Kirwa took third with the CBU quartet of McMarshall Hartzenberg, Zlatko Kozuhar, Manuel Peris and Giedrius Valincius rounding out the First Team All-WAC. UVU's Scott Houle was named WAC Coach of the Year and Kozuhar was named WAC Freshman of the Year.
 
NCAA REGIONALS
The 2019 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country on Friday, Nov. 15. WAC teams will be represented in four locations. The West Region will be held in Colfax, Wash. (Host: Washington State), the Mountain Region will be held in Salt Lake City (Host: Utah), the South Central Regional will take place in Fayetteville, Ark. (Host: Arkansas) and the Midwest Region will take place in Stillwater, Okla. (Host: Oklahoma State). 
 
ON THE MAP
After a historic performance at the WAC Championship, the California Baptist women moved back into the USTFCCCA National Poll, coming in at 30th.
 
REGIONALLY RANKED
Three men's teams and two women's teams were listed in the latest USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings. In the Mountain Region, Utah Valley sits at 12th in both the men's and women's rankings. The UT Rio Grande Valley men are ranked ninth in the South Central Region. In the West Region, the California Baptist men are ranked ninth and the CBU women are fifth.
 
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2019 Cross Country National Championships will take place in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 23, and is hosted by Indiana State. The race will take place at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
 
ELEVEN WAC CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS EARN USTFCCCA ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS
A total of 11 WAC cross country teams were honored for their success in the classroom, as well as on the course, by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, earning Team Academic Awards.
 
Both the men and women from California Baptist, Grand Canyon, Kansas City, Seattle U and Utah Valley were honored. The NM State women also earned the academic award.
 
NM State had the top women's GPA among WAC schools at 3.67. Grand Canyon boasted the top GPA among the men's teams with a 3.63 mark. To qualify, a team must hold a combined cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
