CALIFORNIA BAPTIST WOMEN, UTAH VALLEY MEN WIN WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
On a foggy morning in Seattle, the California Baptist women won the school's first WAC championship in its first opportunity and the Utah Valley men returned to the top of the conference by claiming the WAC championship trophies. 
 
On the women's side, CBU's Anett Somogyi won the women's 6k in a time of 20:52.00, nearly three seconds faster than second-place finisher Mia Jerman from Kansas City. As a team, the Lancers placed four runners in the top 10 en route to a team score of 33 for the first place finish. Somogyi was named WAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, CBU's Adam Tribble was named WAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year aned CBU's Karolina Iznerowicz was named WAC Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year.
 
For the men, it was UVU's Kevin Lynch crossing the finish line first, finishing the 8k in 24:02.1. The Wolverines placed four runners in the top 10 with their final scorer coming across in 11th place. UVU finished with 30 points to win the title by 42 points over second-place UT Rio Grande Valley. Lynch was named WAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, UVU's Scott Houle was named WAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year and UTRGV's Abraham Chirchir was named WAC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year.

It's time to race for a chance to race for a trip to the NCAA Championships as the 2018 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country on Friday, Nov. 9. WAC teams will be represented in four locations. The West Region will be held in Sacramento (Host: Sacramento State), the Mountain Region will be held in Provo, Utah (Host: Brigham Young), the South Central Regional will take place in College Station, Texas (Host: Texas A&M) and the Midwest Region will take place in Peoria, Ill. (Host: Bradley). 
 
REGIONALLY RANKED
Two men's teams and three women's teams are recognized in the most recent USTFCCCA Regional Rankings. On the men's side, UT Rio Grande Valley is third in the South Central Region and in the Mountain Region, Utah Valley is 13th. For the women, UT Rio Grande Valley is seventh in the South Central Region, California Baptist is 11th in the West Region and Utah Valley is 14th in the Mountain Region.
 
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2018 Cross Country National Championships will take place in Madison, Wis. on Nov. 17, and is hosted by Wisconsin. The race will take place at Zimmer Championship Course. The top two teams from each regional will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship, as well as 13 at-large teams as selected by the national committee. In addition, the top four individual finishers per region not on advancing teams will automatically qualify, as well as two at-large individuals. Selections will be accounced on Saturday, Nov. 10.
