WAC Volleyball Players of the Week Announced

Kansas City senior outside hitter Alicia Harrington and Grand Canyon sophomore middle blocker Annabelle Kubinski have been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3. This is the first honor of the season and second of her career for Harrington and the first-ever honor for Kubinski.

Harrington, a Cedar Falls, Iowa native, averaged WAC bests of 6.17 points and 5.33 kills on a season-high .406 hitting percentage to lead the Roos to a sweep at Chicago State. She finished the match with 16 kills on 32 attempts with just three errors. Harrington now ranks third in the WAC with 3.46 kills per set this season.

Kubinski, an Albuquerque, N.M. native, led the WAC with a 2.17 blocks per set average in a pair of road wins. Grand Canyon hit the 20-win mark Saturday when it defeated Utah Valley for the first time in program history to become one of just 15 teams in the nation with 20 wins. Kubinski opened the week with a career-high seven blocks at Seattle U. She followed it up with six blocks at Utah Valley. She nearly tripled her season average over the two matches as she entered the week averaging 0.75 blocks per set. The Lopes are one win away from matching the program Division I record for victories.

Other offensive nominees included: Cassidy Dennison of California Baptist averaged 2.50 kills on .340 hitting and 3.0 points per set last week ... Grand Canyon's Melody Horton averaged 3.17 and 3.3 points per set on the week ... Megan Hart of NM State averaged 3.38 kills on .460 hitting and 3.8 points per set last week ... Seattle U's Ezgi Ozkan averaged 12.14 assists per set ... Sarah Cruz of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 3.0 kills, 3.6 points and 0.50 service aces per set last week ... Utah Valley's Kazna Tarawhiti averaged 3.42 kills and 3.8 points per set.

Other defensive nominees included: California Baptist's Yagoda Jedrzejczak averaged 1.38 blocks ... Brooke Boiseau of CSU Bakersfield averaged 1.50 blocks ... Kansas City's Mykal Sadler averaged 1.33 blocks per set ... Analyssa Acosta of NM State averaged 5.0 digs per set ... Seattle U's Tijana Milojevic averaged 5.86 digs per set ... Samaret Caraballo of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 4.0 digs per set ... Utah Valley's Makaila Jarema averaged 2.0 blocks per set.
