Kansas City senior middle hitter Ty Lukes and Grand Canyon freshman setter Klaire Mitchell have been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Sept. 23-29. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and the third of her career for Lukes and the first-ever honor for Mitchell.

Lukes, a Miami, Fla. native, averaged 3.9 points and 3.5 kills per set on .500 hitting in a pair of sweeps last week to open WAC play. She had 10 kills on 13 attacks for a .615 hitting percentage against CSU Bakersfield and added 11 kills with just two errors against CBU. Lukes ranks second in WAC in hitting percentage (.387) on the season. 

Mitchell, a Coeur d'Alene, Idaho native, averaged a WAC-best 6.0 digs per set last week in a road sweep at Chicago State. The setter had a career-high 18 digs. She also dished 27 assists for her seventh double-double of the season.

Other offensive nominees included: Megan Sester of California Baptist averaged 2.67 kills and 2.8 points per set ... CSU Bakersfield's Hayley McClusky averaged 4.0 kills on .297 hitting as the Roadrunner went 1-1 on the week ... Sarah Hagge of Grand Canyon averaged 2.33 kills on .304 hitting ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Barbara Silva averaged 3.50 kills on .350 hitting last week ... Megan Childs of Utah Valley averaged 1.56 kills on .216 hitting.

Other defensive nominees included: California Baptist's Yagoda Jedrzejczak averaged 1.25 blocks and 0.50 digs per set ... Mykal Sadler of Kansas City averaged 1.17 blocks and 0.83 digs per set ... NM State's Analyssa Acosta averaged 5.14 digs per set ... Samaret Caraballo of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 3.75 digs per set last week ... Utah Valley's Jasmine Niutupuivaha averaged 1.22 blocks and 0.56 digs per set.
