Seattle U sophomore outside hitter Eve Kerschenbaum and Utah Valley senior middle blocker Makaila Jarema have been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Aug. 25-31. This is the first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor for Kerschenbaum and the first of the season and third of her career for Jarema.

Kerschenbaum, a Wellington, Fla. native, helped Seattle U go 2-1 to open the season averaging WAC-bests of 4.91 kills and 5.59 points per set. She also added 0.45 service aces per set. Kerschenbaum began the season hitting .370 with a 24-kill, 16-dig, two-ace effort in a 3-1 win over Southern Miss. In a victory over San Francisco, she posted 21 kills and 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. Kerschenbaum's 24 kills tied the program's 10th-best single match total.

Jarema, a Highland, Utah native, posted a WAC-high 1.80 blocks per set against No. 16 Marquette, No. 9 Brigham Young and Boise State at the BYU Invitational last week. Against the host Cougars, she finished with eight blocks in three sets. Jarema followed it up with seven blocks against Boise State.

Other offensive nominees included: Sydney Marks of California Baptist averaged 2.92 kills on .342 hitting ... Grand Canyon's Yeni Murillo averaged 3.36 kills and 3.6 points per set as the Lopes went 3-0 last week ... Ty Lukes of Kansas City finished with 15 kills on .417 hitting in a five-set loss to Kansas ... NM State's Megan Hart was named tournament MVP after averaging 2.78 kills on .500 hitting and 3.4 points per set as the Aggies went 3-0 on the weekend ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Sarah Cruz averaged 4.30 kills, 0.20 service aces and 4.8 points per set last week ... Kazna Tarawhiti of Utah Valley was named to the Aggie Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 3.36 kills per set.

Other defensive nominees included: California Baptist's Nicole Abreu averaged 3.25 digs per set ... Teagan DeFalco of Grand Canyon averaged 3.57 digs per set ... Kansas City's Maddie Renn averaged 4.20 digs per set ... Julianna Salanoa of NM State averaged 1.33 blocks per set ... Seattle U's Tijana Milojevic averaged 3.00 digs per set on the week ... Samaret Caraballo of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 3.90 digs per set last week.
