CBU Defeats Little Rock to Advance to NIVC Second Round

NEW ORLEANS – California Baptist picked up a five-set (17-25, 25-12, 25-17, 20-25, 15-11) victory over Little Rock in the first round of the NIVC tonight. With the win, the Lancers advance to the second round where they will face host Tulane on Friday.

CBU out-hit Little Rock .251 to .213 on the match, with five service aces to the Trojans' three. Summer Avery paced all players with 18 kills on .357 hitting to go with 11 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Sydney Marks and Tesa Oaks added 14 kills each. Oaks also had 10 digs for a double-double.

Setter Natalie Zimmerer also doubled up with 51 assists and 15 digs. Libero Nicole Abreu tallied a match-high 29 digs.

CBU came out flat in the first set, managing just five kills on 38 attempts with five errors for a .000 hitting percentage en route to a 25-17 loss.

In the second set, the Lancers settled down and took control, tallying 18 kills on .395 hitting for a 25-12 victory.

CBU controlled the third set, as well, out-hitting the Trojans .333 to .114, but Little Rock rebounded with a victory in the fourth set.

In the fifth and final set, the Lancers were on fire, finishing with 12 kills and no errors for a .480 hitting percentage to seal the victory.
