DENVER- UT Rio Grande Valley's Dominique Ibarra and Grand Canyon's doubles team Autum Prudhomme and Celia Morel have been named the Women's Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week for April 2- 8.
Ibarra, a senior from Barcelona, Spain, closed out WAC-play with a 2-0 weekend and a perfect 5-0 record at the No. 1 spot. She defeated an opponent from Kansas City 6-1, 6-1 and Grand Canyon 6-0, 6-3. Ibarra has won 12 straight matches and hasn't lost since January 19.
Prudhomme, a sophomore from Glendale, Ariz., and Morel, a junior from Passy, France, won all five matches in conference-play as a pair. They are the first Grand Canyon duo to do so since 2016. Their most recent wins both came with a 6-4 margin over Chicago State and UT Rio Grande Valley.
Other female singles nominees: Chicago State's Anastasiia Goncharova went 2-1 in her final WAC matches of the season… Celina Buhr of Grand Canyon ends WAC-play with a 4-1 record and has earned 10 singles wins on the year… Kansas City's Katie Fries won three-straight matches to close conference play and holds the highest winning percentage for the 'Roos in singles play.
Other female doubles nominees: Chicago State's Katarina Drazic and Diana Borodina finished 4-1 in WAC-play from the No. 2 slot… Michela Xibilia and Yana Grechkina of Kansas City improved to 6-8 on the year and 3-2 in conference play… UT Rio Grande Valley's Dominique Ibarra and Marine Darzyan earned a 2-0 record over the weekend and finished conference matches 4-1.
