This Week in WAC Women's Tennis - March 13
 
GRAND CANYON AND CHICAGO STATE REPRESENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS
Grand Canyon's Lucas Grego and Chicago State's Katarina Drazic, and Chicago State's doubles team Katarina Drazic and Diana Borodina have been named the Men's and Women's Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 5-11.
 
Grego, a senior from Longwy, France, improved his singles record to 10-1 with two wins this weekend. He first defeated an opponent from Fresno State 6-2, 6-2. Grego followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Enrique Asmar of NM State.
 
Drazic, a sophomore from Sarasota, Fla., moved to the No. 2 position and clinched two matches for the Cougars. She won against Eastern Illinois 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 and Detroit 6-1, 7-5.
Drazic and Diana Borodina, a freshman from Moscow, Russia, have now won three of their last four matches. Their most recent wins came against Eastern Illinois 7-6 (9-7) and Detroit, 6-4.
 
Other male singles nominees: Chicago State's Gonzalo Martinez won 6-3, 6-1 to clinch for the Cougars over Eastern Illinois. 
 
Other female singles nominees: Grand Canyon's Emilia Occhipinti clinched the team win for the Lopes against Portland winning 2-6, 6-2, 7-6.
 
Other female doubles nominees: Celia Morel and Autum Prudhomme of Grand Canyon won their third match in a row 6-0 against Portland.
 
THIS WEEK IN WAC WOMEN'S TENNIS
CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State beat Eastern Illinois 4-3 and Detroit Mercy 5-2. The Cougars won two singles matches and one doubles against Eastern Illinois. They earned the victory on forfeits. Katarina Drazic and Diana Borodina both won their singles. Drazic contributed to the doubles win as well pairing up with Kristina Pukhaeva for a 7-6 win. CSU won four singles and the doubles point over Detroit Mercy. Drazic and Borodina added their second wins of the weekend 6-1, 7-5 and 2-6, 6-0, 7-5. Pukhaeva and Iesha Sheperd also won in singles.

KANSAS CITY
The 'Roos fell 0-4 to Missouri.
 
SEATTLE U
Seattle U swept George Fox 7-0 before losing to Idaho 1-4. Every match was won in straight sets over George Fox. Hannah Gianan and Jillian Rasmussen both won 6-0, 6-0. The Redhawks also won each doubles set 6-0. Seattle U was awarded an automatic point against Idaho due to a depleted roster.
 
UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
UT Rio Grande Valley swept Laredo Community College 7-0. Dominique Ibarra and Sandra Putz won 6-0, 6-0 while the rest of the singles were also won in straight sets. Michelle Walker and Doris Aleksovska won their doubles match 6-0.
 
2019 WAC TOURNAMENT
The 2019 WAC Men's and Women's Tennis Tournaments will be hosted by UT Rio Grande Valley on April 26-28 in Brownsville, Texas. All six teams will compete in the Tournament as the first round will be No. 4 seed against No. 5 seed and No. 3 seed takes on No. 6 seed. No. 1 and No. 2 seeds earn a ticket straight to the semifinals. The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the WAC representative. The reigning tournament champion is NM State as they defeated NM State 4-0 in the Championship match last year.
 
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2019 Tennis National Championships will take place in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus Collegiate Center on May 16-25.
