DENVER – CSU Bakersfield's Jayssie Haynes and California Baptist's Emily Dunkerson have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 1-7.
Haynes, a junior from San Jose, Calif., led the 'Runners to three team victories on the week. Individually, she recorded four first-place finishes and two runner-ups. Her best time in the 200 breaststroke was 2:22.00 earning her first in a dual against San Jose State. She also recorded her best 200 individual medley time this week against SJSU touching the wall at 2:09.96.
Dunkerson, a junior from Riverside, Calif., ended the week with two first-place finishes, one runner-up, and one fifth-place. Dunkerson swept both dives in a dual against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. She posted 236.70 points for a second-place finish in the 1-meter against Grand Canyon and Wyoming.
Other swimmer nominees: California Baptist's Alina Jungklaus logged three individual wins and a runner-up finish throughout two duals… Marina McInelly of Grand Canyon swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events against California Baptist and Wyoming.
Other diver nominees: Mennattalah Elmidany of Grand Canyon earned third in the 3-meter dive and sixth in the 1-meter against California Baptist and Wyoming.
