DENVER – California Baptist's Molly Kolander and Seattle U's Andie Larkins have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 15-21. This is the first-ever honor for Kolander and the first honor of the season and fourth of her career for Larkins.
Kolander, a freshman infielder from Danville, Calif. batted .700 (7-of-10) over three games last week as the Lancers swept the series against Utah Valley. She doubled to give her an .800 slugging percentage for the week and also scored twice. Kolander had multiple hits in all three games of CBU's first-ever WAC series sweep. She was 2-for-4 with a double in game one and 3-for-3 with a run scored in game two before finishing 2-for-3 in the finale on Saturday.
Larkins, a senior right-hander from Tucson, Ariz., threw a no-hitter in a five-inning run-rule victory over CSU Bakersfield last Saturday. In the first inning, she earned a strikeout as part of a 1-2-3 inning. Larkins induced a flyout, a groundout and a popout in the second. In the third, Larkins went to a full count before striking out Samantha Pech. She followed with a groundball to short and a flyball to right to close the frame. Larkins handled a comebacker and then got two groundouts to Alyson Matriotti to get through four innings. With a 4-0 lead in the fifth, Larkins picked up a looking strikeout and then a pop-up to third. She then walked Arianna Felix before getting Pech to groundout to third for the final out. Larkins threw all five innings, striking out three. She made short work of CSUB, throwing just 57 pitches on the day. It was the fifth no-hitter in program history.
