DENVER – UNLV's Wyatt Marsalek and Grand Canyon's Pietro Hufnagel Toscani have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 29-Nov. 5.
Marsalek, a freshman from Santa Marie, Calif., won the 1000 freestyle and took second in the 500 freestyle against BYU. His time of 9:32 in the 1000 is the fastest time in the WAC this season. He is ahead of the second best 1000 freestyle time in the WAC by more than two seconds.
Hufnagel Toscani, a junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, won three events and took second in the fourth against Air Force. In the 3-meter he scored 321.50 points which qualifies him for NCAA Zone. His 1-meter score of 321.90 ranks best in the WAC so far this season.
Other swimmer nominee: Air Force's Peter Lochmaier won three events and tied for first in the 200 butterfly… Bogdan Plavin of Grand Canyon finished first in two individual events and helped two relays to top finishes… Wyoming's David Murphy earned 18 points with two individual wins against Colorado Mines.
Other diver nominee: Air Force's Cole Armagost took first in the 3-meter and second in the 1-meter against Grand Canyon… Jesse Cawley of UNLV won both diving events against Utah and BYU.
