DENVER – California Baptist's Jacob Leahy has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 8-15.
Leahy, a sophomore from Sammamish, Wash., placed first in three events and runner up in one at the Pepperdine Malibu Invite. Individually, Leahy earned first in the 100 butterfly (50.44) and the 100 backstroke (50.60). He also competed in the 200-medley relay which placed first (1:32.61) and the 400-free relay who earned runner-up (3:08.47). As a team, California Baptist finished fourth despite competing in only day two of the meet. The Lancers tallied 590 points, 145.5 points short of the meet winner.
Other swimmer nominee: Mazen Shoukri of Grand Canyon won first in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle while also leading the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay to first place finishes... Seattle U's Shawn Fujii won the 100 butterfly (51.57), the 100 breaststroke (1:01.66) and competed in the first place 200 medley relay (1:37.21).
