OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Utah Valley senior midfielder Alec Felix was today announced as one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award®, given annually to a student-athlete who excels both on and off the field.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Felix is a three-time Academic All-WAC selection and will graduate next April. Entering his final year of school, Felix has a 3.72 cumulative GPA.
"Alec embodies every characteristic you want in a captain for your program. He doesn't just do the work that is required, but goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone on the team is improving. He is also a driven leader off of the field, earning academic honors and success, while mentoring his teammates to individual academic excellence and team public recognition awards," praised UVU head coach Greg Maas in a supporting statement.
A two-time honorable mention All-WAC selection, he has started all but two games in his entire career. He was the team leader in minutes played last season and, as of nomination time, is approaching more than 5,000 career minutes on the pitch. Felix was also part of a WAC Championship team in 2016 and has scored five career goals.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 Men's College Cup® in December.
