DENVER – California Baptist's Ben Hallam and Grand Canyon's Alexis Linam have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 27 to April 2.
Hallam, a senior from Cheshire, England, posted a top-five finish at the Redhawk Invitational, shooting a 9-under-par 204 to lead the Lancers and finish fifth among 102 golfers. Playing Chambers Bay Golf Club, the site of the 2015 US Open, he posted three straight sub-par rounds, shooting a 2-under-par 69 in the first round followed by a 4-under-par 67 in the second round. He finished the tournament with a 3-under-par 68 to finish with the fourth best 54-hole total in CBU program history.
Linam, a sophomore from Phoenix, saved the best for last at the Fresno State Classic, firing a school-record 7-under-par 65 to move up eight spots on the individual leaderboard and finish second with a 6-under-par 210, just one stroke off the lead. Despite highlighting the record-breaking round, she played well all week, shooting a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round before firing a 2-over-par 74 in the middle round. As a team, GCU finished second as well with a 3-over-par 867, which is the second-best 54-total in program history.
Other men's nominees: Seattle U's Nathan Cogswell tied for seventh at the Redhawk Invitational, shooting a 7-under-par 206 to earn his second top-10 finish of the season … UT Rio Grande Valley's Pedro Lamadrid shot three rounds of 2-under-par 70 to tie for third with a 6-under-par 210 at the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational … Utah Valley's Gabe Lysen tied for 22nd a the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational, shooting a 7-over-par 223.
Other women's nominees: Utah Valley's Nathalie Irlbacher led the Wolverines in their final regular-season event of the season, shooting a 4-over-par 220 to tie for 16th place at the Fresno State Classic.
