WAC Golfers of the Month Announced

DENVER – Seattle U's Nathan Cogswell and California Baptist's Erica Wang have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Month, respectively, for October.

Cogswell, a freshman from Kent, Wash. (Kentwood HS), averaged 71.2 strokes through six rounds for the Redhawks in the month of October. His best round came in the finale of the Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno, Calif., firing a 6-under-par 66 en route to a fourth-place finish with a 10-under-par 206. He also played well in the Little Rock Invitational, shooting a five-over-par 221 to finish in a tie for 24th.  Through the fall portion of the schedule, the freshman ranks third in the WAC and leads SU with a 72.17 stroke average.

Wang, a senior from Corona, Calif. (Santiago HS), won honors for the second straight month after posting a 70.7 stroke average in the month of October. Earlier in the month, she tied for medalist honors at the NM State Aggie Invitational, shooting a 1-under-par 215 to help the Lancers earn a second-place team finish. At the UC Irvine Invitatioanl, she set a new CBU record for low 54-hole total with a 7-under-par 209 as she tied for second. Her second-round 5-under-par 67 at the UC Irvine Invitational and her third-round 4-under-par 68 at the NM State Aggie Invitational are the top two rounds in the WAC this season.

Other men's nominees: California Baptist's Ben Hallam earned a pair of top-15 finishes on the month to finish the fall with a 72.17 stroke average … Grand Canyon's Matthew Braley led the Lopes to a pair of top-five finishes with a pair of top-five finishes of his own, averaging 71.4 strokes per round on the month … NM State's Mike McGilton took first at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and tied for second at the Pepsi-Cola Classic … UT Rio Grande Valley's Alvaro Hernandez earned a pair of top-five finishes, taking third at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and second at the Brooks Invitational … Utah Valley's Jake Godfrey finished the fall with a 73.80 stroke average through 15 rounds.

Other women's nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Macey Mills took third at the Chi-Town Classic with a 9-over-par 153 … Grand Canyon's Courtney Vogel picked up her first-ever collegiate victory at the Rose City Collegiate, shooting a 5-under par 211 … Kansas City's Theresa de Bochdanovits average 74.0 strokes per round for the Roos in the month of October … NM State's Dominique Galloway tied for the lead at the NM State Aggie Invitational and finished 12th at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational … Seattle U's Krystal Hu earned a third-place finish at the Rose City Collegiate with a 2-over-par 218 … UT Rio Grande Valley's Michelle Moroles recorded a career-low 69 in the second round of the Bearkat Invitational, the second-lowest round in program history … Utah Valley's Carly Dehlin Hirsch had a pair of top-15 finishes in October, averaging 75.4 strokes per round for the month.
