CSUB Season Ends in CIT Quarterfinals

GREEN BAY, Wis. – All good things have to come to an end eventually. For the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners, it came in the quarterfinal round of the Tournament, falling 80-65 to the host Green Bay Phoenix on Friday night.

In the first half, the 'Runners got out to an early lead, pushing the advantage to five at 16-11 just five minutes into the game. Unfortunately, the CSUB offense cooled off, going nearly six minutes without a basket and falling behind, 22-18, with 9:12 left in the first half. Green Bay pushed the lead into double-digits at 40-28 with just under a minute left to play and after a basket by Justin McCall with 26 seconds left, the 'Runners headed into the break trailing 40-30.

The 'Runners came out fighting in the second half as a layup and free throw by James Suber cut Green Bay's lead to three, 42-39, with 17:28 on the clock. Despite the increased offensive output by CSUB, the Phoenix pushed the lead back into double-digits and the 'Runners struggled to play their way back into the game.

CSUB was led by Rickey Holden and Taze Moore with 18 points each. McCall added 10 points for the 'Runners, who shot 27-for-65 from the field. The 'Runners played well in the paint, scoring 38 points near the basket, but CSUB was outrebounded, 40-35, on the night.

The 'Runners finish their season with a record of 18-16.
