WAC Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced

DENVER – Grand Canyon's Kona Quiggle and CSU Bakersfield's Edgar Barclay have been named Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 25 – March 31.

Quiggle, a junior outfielder from Phoenix, Ariz. (Greenway HS), was instrumental in the Lopes going 4-0 on the week with a non-conference win over Nevada and a WAC series sweep at Utah Valley. Against Nevada, Quggile was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored in an 8-2 win. He kept that going in the first game against Utah Valley, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and a run scored. In game two against UVU, he was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and then he wrapped up the series with a 2-for-5 afternoon to finish the week 10-for-19 at the plate with eight runs scores, six RBIs, four doubles and home run.

Barclay, a junior left-hander from Hilo, Hawai'i (St. Joseph HS), earns honors for the second time this season after throwing his second one-hit complete-game shutout of the season in a 9-0 win over Seattle U. He faced just two batters over the minimum, giving up one hit and walking one Redhawks while striking out 10 SU batters on his way to the win. Holding a 2.23 ERA, he leads the league in opposing batting average at .172 and he is second in strikeouts with 55 in 44.1 innings pitched.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees: California Baptist's Andrew Bash had four RBIs in an offensive slugfest with Sacramento State on Friday … CSU Bakersfield's Eric Charles hit .500 on the week after hitting just .100 coming into the week … NM State's Tristan Peterson had seven RBIs in the Aggies' 13-4 win over rival New Mexico … Sacramento State's Dawsen Bacho ws 4-for-6 with five RBIs and three runs scored in the Hornets' 21-10 win over CBU on Friday … UT Rio Grande Valley's Jacob Hirsh had a pair of three-hit games, including a perfect 3-for-3 against nationally-ranked TCU … Utah Valley's Pacen Hayes led the Wolverines at the plate, going 3-for-7 with six RBIs in a pair of games against Grand Canyon.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees: California Baptist's Matt Amrhein threw 8.2 innings of relief on the week and did not allow an earned run on his way to a win and a save against Sacramento State and San Diego State respectively … Chicago State's Dylan Cumming threw a career-high 146 pitches to earn the win over NM State on Saturday … Grand Canyon's Nick Hull allowed three hits in five scoreless innings at Nevada before settling for the no-decision in an 8-2 win … NM State's Chance Hroch carried a perfect game into the final inning of a seven-inning complete-game win at Chicago State, allowing one hit and striking out seven … Sacramento State's Scott Randall threw his first complete-game shutout on Sunday at California Baptist, allowing just two hits in the 1-0 win … UT Rio Grande Valley's Conner Dotson retired the first 13 batters he faced in a seven-inning complete-game win over Northern Colorado on Saturday.
