AUSTIN – Three WAC men's tennis players – Grand Canyon's Lucas Grego, Kansas City's Ben Stride and NM State's Enrique Asmar – have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® At-Large team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Grego and Stride were named to the second team, while Asmar was a third team selection.
Grego graduated with a perfect 4.0 as a business administration and sports business major. He set a GCU Division I single season record with a 20-4 singles record at the No. 4 spot as a senior. He was named first team All-WAC in both singles and doubles. Grego also went 13-9 at No. 3 doubles with partner Freddie Grant.
Stride boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA in environmental & urban geosciences. He went 16-4 in singles play this year, mainly coming from the No. 3 spot (11-2). After transferring from Drake prior to the 2018 season, he teamed up with doubles partner Diego Giraldo this year to record a 16-4 mark. Stride was named to the 2019 All-WAC Tournament Team in both singles and doubles play. He helped the Roos advance to the conference semifinals and finish the year winning four-straight individual matches.
Asmar recently graduated with a 3.97 GPA in civil engineering. The Barranquilla, Colombia, product is a four-year letterwinner. He wrapped up his senior campaign with 15 wins in singles play and 19 victories in doubles action. He concluded his career with 77 career singles victories and 68 career doubles wins.
