WAC Announces Hiring of Ron Loghry as Senior Associate Commissioner

DENVER – Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Jeff Hurd today announced that Ron Loghry has been named Senior Associate Commissioner effective Jan. 14, 2019. He will be responsible for the overall financial management of the Conference, men's basketball oversight and other selected administrative functions.

"The WAC is very fortunate to have attracted someone as talented and experienced as Ron Loghry," Hurd said. "He will be a great fit with our staff and member institutions."

Loghry comes to the WAC from the Big Sky Conference, where he spent the last 23 years, most recently as Interim Commissioner for four months. During that time, he oversaw the daily operations of the conference, provided leadership to the 10-member staff and developed and implemented the conference's budget.

Prior to serving as Interim Commissioner, Loghry was the Deputy Commissioner for 12 years, where he was accountable for the daily operations and budgetary control of the conference office and supervision of the office team, including all human resources. He was the director of the football and men's basketball operations and managed the respective officiating services and coordinators, including the adjudication of appropriate reprimands and suspensions. Loghry created all Big Sky schedules and oversaw the strategic planning related to long-term budget initiatives, conference scheduling and basketball championships.

From 1998-2006, Loghry was the Associate Commissioner and Chief of Staff, serving as the director of championships, facilitating coach's meetings and spearheading the creation of the WatchBigSky video streaming venture. He spent his first three years at the Big Sky as the Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations, where he managed and mentored the media relations staff and brought the conference online.

Prior to joining the Big Sky, Loghry was an assistant sports information director at the University of Wyoming and had a brief stint as operations coordinator with the Continental Basketball Association. He also served a one-year internship with the WAC in the early 90s.

"I'm grateful for this opportunity to work with Commissioner Jeff Hurd and his staff," Loghry said. "I am confident my experience, knowledge and passion for Division I athletics will be of value to the WAC and I can't wait to get started."

A University of Wyoming graduate, the Riverton, Wyo., native and his wife Michelle have a son Connor (23) and a daughter Gentry (20).
