Boise State Headed to NCAA Tournament; Utah State to Play in NIT and Nevada in the CBI

WAC Champion Boise State will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to play their first NCAA Tournament game since 1994. The No. 14 Broncos will take on No. 3 Louisville in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 21. The winner of the that game will take on the winner of the game  between No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 11 St. Joesph's on Saturday, March 22.

2008 NCAA Tournament Bracket

Boise State capped an incredible WAC Tournament run Saturday night with a triple overtime victory over New Mexico State on the Aggies home floor, 107-102. The victory established a school record 25 wins on the season, and marks the school’s fifth NCAA Tournament appearance. The Broncos also advanced to the NCAA’s in 1976, 1988, 1993 and 1994.

North Carolina, Memphis, Kansas and UCLA earned the top seeds in the NCAA tournament. North Carolina is the top seed in Boise State's Region, the East Region.

Utah State's men's basketball team will make its ninth straight postseason appearance when it plays at Illinois State (24-9, 13-5) in the first round of the 2008 MasterCard National Invitational Tournament on Wednesday.  The game will begin at 8 p.m. (MT) and be televised on ESPNU.

2008 NIT Bracket

Utah State (24-10, 12-4) will be competing in the postseason NIT for the second straight season and for the fourth time in the last eight years. Overall, it will be USU¹s ninth appearance in the NIT and the Aggies have lost its last seven games in the tournament, including a 68-58 loss at Michigan last year.  Utah State's two other NIT appearances this decade were at home as it lost to Hawai¹i, 85-74, in 2004 and Montana State, 77-69, in 2002.

The University of Nevada men’s basketball team will take on the University of Houston on Tuesday, March 18 at Lawlor Events Center in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational (CBI). Tuesday’s game will tip off at 6 p.m. Pacific Time and will be televised nationally by Fox College Sports.

2008 CBI Bracket

In its first year, the CBI is a 16-team, single-elimination tournament that runs from Tuesday, March 18 through Friday, April 4. Games will be played at on-campus sites, while the championship series is a best-of-three with the higher-seeded team playing at home in the first game and, if necessary, the third.  The first round is scheduled for March 18-19, while the Championship Series will be March 31, April 2 and April 4 (if necessary).

This year, the Houston Cougars turned in their best season since 1991-92, posting a 22-9 overall record and finishing third in Conference USA with an 11-5 mark.
