WAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Louisiana Tech’s Chasidee Lewis-Baker and Annett Wichmann of Hawai’i have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 28 – Feb. 3. This is the first career WAC Indoor Athlete of the Week honor for Lewis-Baker and the second for Wichmann, as she earned it once as a junior. This is the first season that honors for both “Track” and “Field” athletes will be awarded each week.

Lewis-Baker, a freshman from Alexandria, La., (Alexandria), finished in second-place in the 60-meter dash at the Indiana Relays with a time of 7.50, barely missing the standard for a NCAA provisional mark in the event. Her 60-meter time currently leads the WAC.

Wichmann, a senior from Jena, Germany, (Sport Gymnasium Jena), captured the Washington Invitational pentathlon with a NCAA provisional standard of 4,027 points, which currently leads the WAC and ranks fifth in the nation. Her first-place finish included a school record 60-meter hurdle (8.99) and a personal best in the high jump of 5’ 8” (1.73m).

Other Track nominees included:  Nataucha Lowry of Boise State achieved career-best times in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash, posting a time of 7.73 to finish second in the 60-meter and a time of 25.23 in the 200-meter to finish third at the United Heritage Invitational ... Tiera Hillard of Fresno State finished third at the Air Force Invitational in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 56.06, which currently leads the WAC ... Heather Bergland of Idaho was the top collegiate finisher in the 60-meter hurdles at the McDonald’s Collegiate on Feb. 2, running a WAC-leading 8.52 in the event, taking second only behind Angela Whyte’s world top-five time ... Kereiona Johnson of Nevada finished third in the 60-meter hurdles at the United Heritage Invitational with a time of 8.90, which ranks her sixth all-time in Wolf Pack history ... Leah Benton of New Mexico State etched her name onto two Aggies all-time record lists, clocking a 200-meter dash time of 25.23 and a 60-meter dash time of 7.78, good for sixth and seventh all-time in the New Mexico State record books ... Maria Halton of Utah State posted two personal best times at the Air Force Invitational, including the second-fastest in Utah State history in the 60-meter dash (7.67) and the 10th-fastest in school history in the 200-meter dash (24.91).

Other Field nominees included:  Annelise Bertleson of Boise State set a school record in the pole vault by clearing 12’ 7.50” (3.85m) at the United Heritage Invitational, ranking second in the WAC this season ... Rosario Sanchez of Fresno State earned second-place with her shot put of 49’ 7.75” (15.30m) at the Air Force Invitational ... K.C. Dahlgreen of Idaho hit a career-best in the pole vault at the McDonald’s Collegiate, winning the event with a NCAA provisional height of 13’ 3.75”, registering her third-straight meet with a 13-foot vault ... Nadia Alexander of Louisiana Tech finished with a NCAA provisional mark and a first-place finish in the shot put, hurling 52’ 0.35”, ranking ninth in the nation ... Isabel Chea of New Mexico State posted a personal-best and fourth-place finish in the long jump at the Washington Invitational, recording a leap of 17’ 5” ... Sonia Grabowska  of Utah State recorded a personal-best height of 12’ 6.25” in the pole vault at the Air Force Invitational, which is the third-highest in Aggie history and ranks second in the WAC this season.
