PEBBLE BEACH, CALIF. - Led by junior Scott Smith, the Wolf Pack came in first place at the 16-team Saint Mary's Invitational hosted by St. Mary's at the par 72, 6863-yard Poppy Hills Golf Club Nov. 9-10.
The Wolf Pack shot three-over 291 in round one, two-over 290 in round two and finished with even 288 for tournament score of five-over 869 to come in first. The pack finished with a four-stroke advantage over 12th ranked Oregon State at 873. In third was University of San Diego (287-294-294=875). Denver University (285-298-298=881) and UC Irvine (296-296-293=885) came in fourth and fifth for the tournament, respectively.
Nevada's top player was junior Scott Smith who finished seventh at 216. Smith shot four-over 76 in round one, even-par 72 in round two and four-under 68 in round three. Smith has been at or under par seven times for the fall season. Senior Jared Becher (75-68-76) tied for 9th, Becher has placed in the top 10 in all five fall tournaments. Seniors Ryan Hallisey (72-79-70) and Travis Esway (74-73-74) tied for 16th with tournament totals of 221. Senior Taylor Coffman shot two-under par in round one, followed by 77 and 78 in rounds two and three to tied for 28th.
Domingo Jojola of San Francisco took first in the Saint Mary's Invitational at seven-under 209 (71-69-69).
In individual play, junior Chris Cho (80-75-73) tied for 47th with a tournament total of 228.
The Saint Mary's Invitational will mark the end of the fall season for the men's team. The Pack will be back in action Feb. 1-2 when they compete in Tucson Ariz. at the Arizona Invitational.
