UTAH STATE'S HISTORIC SEASON ENDS
After winning 15 matches and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time, Utah State's season ended on Saturday with a 2-1 loss at #3 Auburn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Aggies rallied on a goal by All-WAC selection Kendra Pemberton, but the Aggies couldn't find the equalizer.
WAC Tournament MVP Molli Merrill continued her strong play in goal for the Aggies, making six saves in the match.
Utah State Aggies (15-5-2, 5-1-1 WAC)
Utah State's season came to a close with a 2-1 loss to #3 Auburn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament ... the Aggies' lone goal was scored by Kendra Pemberton, who followed up a shot that rang off the post by sophomore forward Mari Miyashiro ... the score brought the Aggies within a goal in the 64th minute, but Utah State couldn't find an equalizer ... the Tigers move onto face Maryland in the second round ... Utah State will be saying goodbye to a quintet of seniors who were part of the of the winningest senior class in Aggie history with 47 wins ... Molli Merrill, Shantel Flanary, Summer Tillotson, Marissa Sanchez and Chandra Salmon-Christensen were the first Aggie players to win a WAC Tournament and were WAC Champions twice in four years ... USU set a school record with 15 wins on the season and placed five players on the all-WAC First Team.
