DENVER – Nevada infielder Joe Kohan and San Jose State pitcher Esteban Guzman have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 4-10.

Kohan, a junior from Juneau, Alaska (Juneau-Douglas HS), helped the Wolf Pack  to a 3-1 record last week with a win over UC Davis and two wins against Seattle. Kohan hit .400 (6-for-15) with three runs scored, three walks, two doubles, a grand slam and seven RBI. He had two hits in each of the first three games of the week. In the second game of the Seattle series, Kohan hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull the Pack within a run as the team rallied for the 11-10 victory. He started all four games at second base and did not commit an error. He had an on base percentage of .500 with a .733 slugging percentage on the week.

Guzman, a junior from Fairfield, Calif. (Angelo Rodriguez HS), earned his fourth win of the year on Saturday against ninth-ranked Fresno State. Guzman tossed seven innings while giving up only one run to earn a 4-3 victory against the Bulldogs. His 13 strikeouts more than doubled his previous career high and the 7.0 innings pitched tied the longest outing of his career. Guzman had at least one strikeout every inning he worked. In four innings, he struck out two and in the fifth inning he struck out the side. Of the 29 batters he faced, 20 saw first pitch strikes and 14 of those 20 made outs.
