DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference today released the 2012 football schedule which begins on Thursday, August 30, concludes Saturday, December 1 and features 21 conference games in between.

The season begins with four games on Aug. 30.  Last year's WAC champion, Louisiana Tech, will host Texas A&M in Shreveport while New Mexico State hosts Sacramento State, Southern Utah travels to Utah State and Idaho hosts Eastern Washington.

The WAC's two newest members, UTSA and Texas State, will make their debuts on Saturday, Sept. 1 in a couple of non-conference matchups as UTSA travels to South Alabama and Texas State plays at Houston.

The first conference game will be played on Sept. 29 when WAC newcomer UTSA travels to New Mexico State.  Texas State hosts Idaho on Oct. 13 in the Bobcats' conference opener.  On Nov. 24, Texas State plays at UTSA in a battle of the Texas schools.  The season ends on Dec. 1 when Texas State hosts New Mexico State.

A total of 42 non-conference matchups are on the schedule with 10 of those coming against BCS automatic-qualifying conference opponents and 19 versus teams that played in bowl games last season.  WAC schools will face Mountain West teams a total of nine times, the most from any other conference, and will play Brigham Young a total of four times, the most of any individual team.

One telecast has been announced as Utah State will host Utah in a non-conference game on Friday, Sept. 7.  The game will be shown on ESPN2.  Other games to be televised on ESPN networks, along with starting times, will be determined later this spring.
