DENVER - New Mexico State quarterback Andrew Manley, New Mexico State defensive back Jonte Green and Fresno State punt returner Devon Wylie were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Manley, a sophomore from Wahiawa, O'ahu (Leilehua HS), was 20-of-31 for 288 yards and three touchdowns in New Mexico State's 28-21 win at Minnesota. He completed his first 12 pass attempts in giving the Aggies a 21-7 lead in the first half. The win was the first ever for New Mexico State against a Big Ten team and the first win over a team from an automatic qualifying BCS conference team since 1999.
Green, a senior from St. Petersburg, Fla. (Lakewood HS), led the Aggies with 10 solo tackles in the win over Minnesota. He also forced a fumble and broke up a pass while recording his second double-digit tackle game of his career.
Wylie, a senior from Roseville, Calif. (Granite Bay HS), returned five punts for 110 yards including a 67-yard return for a touchdown to open the scoring in Fresno State's game at Nebraska. It was the first punt return for a touchdown against the Cornhuskers since 2001 and the first for the Bulldogs in almost two years. Wylie also caught four passes for 50 yards in the game.
Others nominated on offense: junior running back Robbie Rouse, Fresno State; junior slot receiver Jeremiah Ostrowski, Hawai'i; senior quarterback Brian Reader, Idaho; junior receiver Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech; junior running back Mike Ball, Nevada; and senior running back Robert Turbin, Utah State.
Also nominated on defense: sophomore safety Derron Smith, Fresno State; senior safety Richard Torres, Hawai'i; senior linebacker Korey Toomer, Idaho; and senior linebacker Bobby Wagner, Utah State.
Other special teams nominations included: sophomore safety Trey Williams, Idaho; senior linebacker Adrien Cole, Louisiana Tech; senior punter Jake Hurst, Nevada; and junior punter Tyler Bennett, Utah State.
