DENVER – Two WAC track and cross country student-athletes have been voted to the Capital One Academic All-District teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Idaho’s Hannah Kiser and Utah State’s Daniel Howell were named to the women’s and men’s first teams, respectively, and will now be eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

Kiser, a sophomore from Wenatchee, Wash., led the Vandal women to the 2011 WAC team cross country title with a runner-up finish at the WAC Championship. She finished 85th at her first career NCAA Cross Country Championship. Kiser went on to collect three gold medals at the 2012 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championship, running the anchor leg of Idaho’s champion distance medley relay as well as winning the 3000-meter run and the mile run. An automatic NCAA qualifier for the 3,000m, she finished 13th at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. A double-major with a 4.0 grade-point average in molecular biology and biochemistry, Kiser collected three Verizon WAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors and two Verizon WAC Indoor Track honors this season.

Howell, a senior from Manti, Utah, won the men’s 3000- and 5000-meter runs at the 2012 WAC Indoor Championship and finished first in the 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m at the 2012 WAC Outdoor Championship. At the first round of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Howell placed 21st in the 3,000m steeplechase and 45th in the 5,000m. A wildlife science and rangeland resources major with a 3.96 GPA, he also placed fourth at the 2011 WAC Cross Country Championship and was named the Verizon WAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on April 10.

In order to be eligible for Capital One Academic All-District and All-America honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year, must be a starter or significant reserve and must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. The teams are voted upon and selected by members of CoSIDA.
