Verizon WAC Tennis Athletes of the Week - March 13

DENVER – Fresno State’s Jean-Charles Diame and Marianne Jodoin have been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 5-11.

Diame, a senior from St. Jean des Navrets, France, earned a victory in both singles and doubles against Wisconsin last Saturday. The senior earned the first Bulldog victory in singles with his win over Rod Carey, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot.  He and partner Sai Kartik Nakireddi opened the Bulldog victory with a, 8-4, win over Alex Robles and Rod Carey, in doubles action. The Bulldogs are now the 14-ranked team in the nation.

Jodoin, a sophomore from Varennes, Canada (Ecole Georges HS), the 42nd-ranked singles player in the nation, led the No. 43 Bulldogs to a 7-0 victory over New Mexico State last Saturday. It was the Bulldogs’ second conference win of the season. The sophomore earned a pair of victories in singles and doubles against the Aggies. In singles she defeated Manon Sylvain, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot. Jodoin is currently 9-2 for the season in singles.  In doubles, she and partner Tanya Murtagh bested the Aggies’ Natalia Salum and Jodie Williams, 8-2.
