Jeff Hurd was named commissioner of the WAC on June 14, 2013. He has been associated with the conference for more than half of its existence as he joined the WAC staff in 1985 as the Director of Conference Relations.
Hurd, who becomes the sixth commissioner in the WAC’s 51-year history, has served in various capacities during his tenure. He was the Conference’s Senior Associate Commissioner prior to being named to replace former commissioner Karl Benson on an interim basis.
Hurd is a graduate of the University of Missouri's School of Journalism and began his professional career as the Sports Editor of the Hannibal (Missouri) Courier-Post. He also worked for the Tulsa Tribune, was the Sports Information Director at the University of Tulsa and the Director of Public Relations for the Missouri Valley Conference prior to joining the WAC.
A native of Minot, North Dakota, Hurd and his wife, Cheri, reside in Centennial, Colo., and are the parents of four children: Shannon, Michael, Kristen and Kevin.
