WAC Staff

Jeff Hurd was named commissioner of the WAC on June 14, 2013. He has been associated with the conference for more than half of its existence as he joined the WAC staff in 1985 as the Director of Conference Relations.

Hurd, who is the sixth commissioner in the WAC’s 52-year history, has served in various capacities during his tenure. He was the Conference’s Senior Associate Commissioner prior to being named to replace former commissioner Karl Benson on an interim basis.

Hurd is a graduate of the University of Missouri's School of Journalism and began his professional career as the Sports Editor of the Hannibal (Missouri) Courier-Post. He also worked for the Tulsa Tribune, was the Sports Information Director at the University of Tulsa and the Director of Public Relations for the Missouri Valley Conference prior to joining the WAC.

A native of Minot, North Dakota, Hurd and his wife, Cheri, reside in Centennial, Colo., and are the parents of four children: Shannon, Michael, Kristen and Kevin.

Connie Hurlbut joined the WAC staff in 2009 and serves as Deputy Commissioner. She has been involved in collegiate and professional athletics for more than 25 years.

From 1993-1999, Hurlbut served as Executive Director of the Patriot League, becoming the first woman to lead an all-sport Division I athletic conference. While there, she held several NCAA committee positions including the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee and the Division I Management Council. She also served as the Senior Director of Basketball Operations for the WNBA from 1999-2002.

A 1983 University of Pennsylvania graduate, Hurlbut and her husband, Steve, have two children, Jack and Maggie.

Mollie Lehman joined the WAC staff in August of 2007 and is the Senior Associate Commissioner and Chief Financial Officer. She is primarily responsible for handling all the accounting, finance, and human resource functions within the conference and is the primary liaison to the Conference Finance Committee.

Lehman previously spent two years with the America East Conference where she served as the business manager and assisted with sport administration and championships. Prior to that she served four years as a program’s assistant at Binghamton University.

Lehman received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Binghamton University where she was a four year softball student-athlete. She also earned a master’s of business administration degree from the University of Colorado Denver.

Dave Chaffin joined the WAC staff in 1995 and was promoted to Associate Commissioner in 2010. His responsibilities include technology, conference services and the technical side of the WAC Digital Network.

He previously was the Athletic Media Relations Assistant Director at Colorado State University from 1992-95. Chaffin graduated from the University of Michigan in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in communications. He has completed his course work for a master's degree in technical journalism at Colorado State University.

He and his wife, Michelle, are the parents of a son, Tyler, and daughter, Jamie. They reside in Centennial.

Nicole Harvey joined the WAC in June of 2013 and is the Assistant Commissioner for Compliance. Harvey oversees all compliance activities related to NCAA and WAC rules and regulations. In addition, she serves as the liaison for the Faculty Athletics Representatives and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (WAC SAAC).

Harvey spent the previous 10 years at the University of Memphis where she began in Academic Services before being named the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance & Student Services. Prior to that, Harvey also worked in compliance at both Southern Illinois and Kansas State. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Kansas State University where she was a student-athlete and competed in track and field. Harvey was a four-time All-American, a three-time All-Academic Big Eight Conference selection and the NCAA 400-meter champion in 1995 during her collegiate career.

Amanda Benzine joined the WAC in August of 2011 and oversees the budgeting, planning and administration of the conference's championships and marketing programs.

Benzine came to the WAC after serving as the Director of Marketing at Northern Illinois for two years where she created and implemented comprehensive marketing and ticket sales plans for football, basketball and other sports.

Prior to Northern Illinois, Benzine spent several years in the marketing department at the University of Wisconsin where she also earned her bachelor’s degree in communications.

Vicky Eggleston came to the WAC in December of 2006 and oversees the creative services of the conference.

Before joing the WAC, Eggleston served as the media designer at R+L Carriers in Ohio. Prior to that, she spent eight years in the communications and marketing department at Ohio University where she also assisted in television production of sporting events.

Eggleston is a graduate of Ohio University where she earned her bachelor's degree in communications and a Master of Arts degree in telecommunications. She and her husband, Bryan, are the parents of daughters, Kelsey and Kylie. They live in Littleton, Colo.

Hope Shuler joined the WAC staff in September of 2008 and serves as the media relations contact for volleyball, women’s basketball and softball.

Shuler came to the WAC after serving as the director of media relations for The Summit League. Prior to The Summit, Shuler was an assistant media relations director at the University of Arizona, an assistant sports information director at the University of Utah and the sports information director at Elmhurst College.

A native of Denver, Shuler graduated summa cum laude from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1998 with bachelor’s degrees in both journalism and sports administration. She also completed coursework towards a master's degree in management from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. She and her husband Scott live in Aurora, Colo., and are the proud parents of daughter Everly, born Oct. 21, 2010.

Robby Gabrielli joined the WAC staff in August of 2014 and serves as the Executive Producer for the WAC Sports Network.

Robby has 10 years of experience in sports television and comes to the WAC from the Phoenix Suns’ Broadcast Productions where he was a producer for Suns Live as well as Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury basketball games.  He also was a producer for Altitude Sports and Entertainment in Denver as well as a production assistant for NBA Entertainment.

He is a graduate of St. John’s University (N.Y.).

Matt Pucak joined the WAC staff in the fall of 2011 as an intern and serves as the Assistant Director of Championships and Social Media.

Pucak graduated from Colorado State University in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and technical communications.
Chris Thompson joins the WAC staff in October of 2014 as the Assistant Director of Media Relations.

Thompson comes to the WAC after serving as Communications Director for the Cascade Collegiate Conference, a 10-school NAIA conference, for the past two years. He simultaneously served as the Sports Information Director for The Evergreen State College since 2010. He has also worked in media relations at Western Washington University, Central Washington University and the University of Puget Sound.

Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Central Washington in 2005 and a master’s degree in sports administration and leadership from Seattle U in 2008. He and his wife Lindsay have a one-year-old son, Oscar.

Mary Barber joined the WAC Staff in August of 2013 and serves as the office manager for the conference office.

Before joining the WAC, Barber served as the Executive Assistant for Vice President of Advancement and External Relations at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Prior to that she was the scholarship administrative officer at the Daniels Fund.

Barber earned a degree at Colorado Northwestern Community College. A Montana native, she and her husband reside in Aurora.

Hannah Cox joined the WAC in August of 2014 as the Championships and Media Relations Intern. Cox handles media relations duties for men’s and women’s cross country, tennis, and indoor/outdoor track and field as well as helping with WAC championships.

A former WAC student-athlete, Hannah recently graduated from the University of Wyoming in May 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism.

Justin Bice joined the WAC Staff in August of 2014 and serves as the Compliance Intern.

Bice graduated from Troy University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in sport and fitness management. Before joining the WAC, Bice was a Graduate Assistant in Compliance at Troy University where he was working on his master’s degree in sport administration.

Supervisors of Officials

Bobby Dibler rejoined the WAC in 2005 after working for the conference from 1993-98. He is also the coordinator of officials for the Mountain West Conference. Prior to his duties of coordinating officials, he was a WAC basketball official for 20 years. Dibler also officiated in the Southwest Conference (1973-93), Big West Conference (1982-93), Pac-10 Conference (1982-86, 1988-93), Big Eight Conference (1981-82), and the Missouri Valley Conference (1973-82). During his 20 years as an official, he officiated three NCAA Final Fours and a total of 14 NCAA Tournaments advancing to the Regionals 12 times.

Kaye Garms joined the WAC staff in July of 1990 and serves as the Supervisor of Women's Basketball Officials. Garms graduated from Wayland Baptist University and played for a team which won three consecutive AAU National Women's Basketball titles. She was a two-time AAU All-American in 1957 and 1958 and was a starter on the first United States women's basketball team that competed in Russia in 1958.
Dan Keohane joined the WAC staff in 1996 and serves as the Supervisor of Soccer Officials.

Since 1988, Keohane has served as the NISOA Liaison with the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer Committees, and supervisor of officials for the NCAA Men’s and Women’s College Cup.
Dave Neidlinger was hired as the first Softball Coordinator for the WAC in the summer of 2006. Neidlinger has been the Softball Coordinator for the Mountain West Conference since its inception in 1999. He has been the Softball Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference since 1992. Neidlinger began his umpiring career in 1970 while stationed at the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs. He has umpired 6 National ASA Championships and numerous conference championships and regional tournaments at the Division I and II level.

He and his wife, Joyce, have three grandchildren, Elizabeth, David and Coleman.

Dan Pedersen began umpiring in the WAC in 1981 and serves as the WAC's Supervisor of Umpires. As an umpire, Pedersen has worked five College World Series, the 1991 Pan Am Games in Cuba and three years in professional baseball.

Pedersen and his wife, Melissa, are the parents of two children, Brady and Alyssa, and reside in San Diego, Calif.

Alan Suzuki joined the WAC staff in the spring of 1999 and serves as the Supervisor of Volleyball Officials. Previously, he served as the Colorado Athletic Conference Supervisor of Officials from 1991-95 and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Supervisor of Officials from 1996-98.
