DENVER – Louisiana Tech guard Trey McDowell has been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the week for January 1-7.

McDowell, a senior from Beaumont, Texas (San Jacinto JC), averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a pair of home WAC victories last week.  On Thursday, McDowell scored 14 points and had a game-high five assists in a 92-56 win over San Jose State.  Against Hawai‘i, he scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field and pulled down six rebounds in a 70-67 win.  The 22 points were the most scored by a Tech player this year.  It is McDowell’s first career WAC Player of the Week award and first for a Bulldog player this year.

The other nominations were junior forward Matt Nelson, Boise State; junior guard Kevin Bell, Fresno State; junior guard Marcelus Kemp, Nevada; and junior guard/forward Justin Hawkins, New Mexico State.
