The Western Athletic Conference is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Media Relations. The WAC is a Division I conference located in the southern metro Denver area. The member institutions are California State University, Bakersfield, Chicago State University, Grand Canyon University, University of Missouri-Kansas City, New Mexico State University, Seattle University, The University of Texas-Pan American, and Utah Valley University. Presently, the WAC crowns team and individual champions in 19 sports – nine men’s and 10 women’s. The WAC has a 52-year history of storied success and has a strong, recognizable brand.

Areas of Responsibility

The selected applicant shall be responsible for assisting in the management of the Conference’s media relations operation including, but not limited to, promotion and publicity of all WAC programs and events. The selected applicant shall serve as the primary media contact for select sports, shall disseminate necessary statistical information, compile records and produce publications. This individual shall update the Conference’s official website and social media platforms. The selected applicant will also work productively with the institutional media relations directors, oversee media relations at select championship events, and work to develop and enhance relationships between the Conference and local, regional and national media. Other responsibilities may include tasks assigned by the Commissioner and the Director of Media Relations.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A minimum of three years of proven experience in media relations/sports information, preferably at a conference office. Experience in working in a productive team environment with positive relationships is necessary. Knowledge of the sports media industry, current and emerging technologies related to media relations/sports information, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Ability to work independently and efficiently on a variety of time-sensitive projects; weekend hours and evening work will be a component of the position.
