Director of Championships & Marketing

The Western Athletic Conference is accepting applications for the position of Director of Championships & Marketing. The WAC is a Division I conference located in the southern metro Denver area. The member institutions are California State University, Bakersfield, Chicago State University, Grand Canyon University, University of Missouri-Kansas City, New Mexico State University, Seattle University, The University of Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley University. Presently, the WAC crowns team and individual champions in 19 sports – nine men’s and 10 women’s. The WAC has a 52-year history of success and has a strong, recognizable brand.

Areas of Responsibility

This position is responsible for enhancing the student-athlete experience through the planning, administration and successful execution of 19 Conference championships. It includes but is not limited to the coordination of championship procedures, manuals, signage and marketing materials, budgets and administration of the overall championship in collaboration with host, institutional and conference personnel. A successful candidate will assist in developing marketing, merchandising, branding and social media strategies to enhance the overall championship experience.

The position serves as the liaison to coaches’ groups and the Championship Committee. It also assists the senior management team in facilitating conference office activities; setting agendas for Conference meetings and preparing reports and action plans regarding championships. Based upon interest and qualifications, the position will assist in the administration of selected conference sports.  

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree required, with a Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of three years of experience in event management is required, preferably at the Division I collegiate level. The ability to work in a productive team environment and to develop positive relationships is necessary.  A strong attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to manage a multitude of conference projects and events is required.  The ability to work independently and efficiently on a variety of time-sensitive projects; including weekend hours and evening work, is a component of the position.
