New Mexico State Remains Leader after Day Two of the 2009 Club Glove WAC Men's Golf Championship

HENDERSON, NEV. -- New Mexico State remains in first place with a four stroke lead over Fresno State after the second round of the Club Glove Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship. The Aggies followed up yesterday's 282 with a 301 in windy conditions on Tuesday at the 7,332-yard, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev.

Fresno State posted the best score of the day with a 300 to remain in second place at 587 (+11).  Nevada had the biggest improvement in team standings, jumping from sixth place to a tie for fourth with a second round total of 301.

New Mexico State's Travis Reid began the day tied for first and remains the leader after a one-over par 73 today.  The other first round leader, Fresno State's Grant Doverspike, shot a 75 and is two strokes back in second place.  San Jose State's Mark Hubbard jumped eight spots and is now tied for third place with teammate Jay Myers at even par for the tournament.  Two players shot under par in the second round as Utah State's Devin Daniels and New Mexico State's Gaston De La Torre each carded 71's and are tied for sixth place.

In the rest of the team standings, Idaho remains in third place (288-301--589) followed by Nevada (295-301--596) and Utah State (293-303--596) tied for fourth, San Jose State (292-306--598) in sixth, Louisiana Tech (296-317--613), Boise State (307-317--624) and Hawai'i (306-327--633).

The three-day tournament concludes on Wednesday with final-round tee times beginning at 7:00 a.m.

HENDERSON, NEV. -- New Mexico State has a five stroke lead over Fresno State after the first round of the Club Glove Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship. The Aggies shot a total of 282 in the first round at the 7,332-yard, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev.

New Mexico State had three players in the top 10, led by Travis Reid who is tied for the individual lead with Fresno State's Grant Doverspike at 5-under par (67).  Utah State's Tyler Labrum sits in third place after a 3-under par 69.  A total of 10 players shot under par on Monday.

New Mexico State is 6-under par (282), followed by Fresno State at 287 (-1).  Idaho finished at even par and in third place with a 288.  San Jose State is in fourth following a 292 (+4), Utah State is in fifth with a 293 (+5) and in sixth is Nevada at 295 (+7).  Louisiana Tech is seventh with a 296 (+8) followed by Hawai'i (306, +18) and Boise State (307, +19).

The three-day tournament continues on Tuesday with second-round tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The 48th annual Club Glove Western Athletic Conference men's golf championship is April 27-29 at the 7,332-yard, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada.  New Mexico State is the defending champion after winning last year in San Jose by five strokes over Boise State.  Last year's individual champion, Troy Merritt of Boise State, graduated, but the 2007 champion, Fresno State's Grant Doverspike returns for his final chance to claim a second title.
