LAS CRUCES, N.M.— (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State soccer team notched its first win against Incarnate Word on Sunday, Aug. 31, at the NM State soccer complex, beating the Cardinals 2-1.

The win against the Cardinals is also head coach Freddy Delgado’s first win since becoming head coach for the 2014 season.

“It’s a great feeling to win this first game. The girls have been working really hard and so it feels good to finally get the results we have been looking for,” Delgado said.

OREM, Utah - (UVU Media Relations) Taylor Kirk's first half goal nearly stood up for Utah Valley University but Boise State got the equalizer in the 86th minute in a 1-1, double-OT draw on Sunday afternoon at Clyde Field.

Coupled with Friday's 2-1 win over Baylor, the Wolverines (1-2-1) were unbeaten in two matches to open the 2014 home schedule.

Kirk scored in the 35th minute, on an assist from Melanie Ostler, when her shot glanced off the left post and in from 10 yards out. That score held for over 50 minutes, until Kelli Drobney knotted it at 1-1 with just over four minutes left in regulation.

Southern Utah 5, Bakersfield 0

CEDAR CITY, Utah—(CSUB Media Relations) Southern Utah defeated Bakersfield 5-0 in women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon

Ally Thimsen put the Thunderbirds (1-1-1) up one in the 18th minute. Abbie Flandro increased the Southern Utah lead to two with a tally at the 27:17 mark. Aurora Moberly 1:48 before halftime to give the Thunderbirds a 3-0 advantage.

Southern Utah scored again in the 61st minute when Thimsen notched her second of the match. Nancy Birch tallied the Thunderbirds’ fifth goal at 78:13.

Cleveland State 6, Chicago State 0

CHICAGO – (CSU Media Relations) The Chicago State University women's soccer team continued its four-game homestand this afternoon against visiting Cleveland State at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium. The Vikings earned a 6-0 victory after recording three scores in both halves of play.

"I felt we had some scoring chances at times throughout the game, but at this level we still have to play competitively for 90 minutes in order to be successful," CSU head coach Tony Tommasi said after the game.
