Box Score

Seattle, Wash.--(SU Media Relations) Seattle University women’s soccer (1-0-0) tallied more shots than Idaho (0-1-0) and, despite the game needing part of an overtime period, the Redhawks were able to come away with a 2-1 win in their regular season home opener.

“I’m happy that we got the result and I always say you don’t want to be playing your best soccer at the beginning of the year,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “I think we had a little bit of a rough start, but I think Idaho is a much improved team and Derek [Pittman] is doing a really great job with them. I think they were well organized. Sometimes it’s good to not play great soccer and get the win, because I think it shows your potential.”

Kansas City, Mo.--(UMKC Media Relations) Kara Priest's first career goal was all the 'Roos would need as Nina Tzianos pitched the shutout to lift UMKC to a 1-0 victory over Missouri State in the season opener at Durwood Stadium on Friday.

The Bears entered the match with an unblemished 5-0 mark vs. UMKC, winning each of the team's five previous meetings by one goal, but the tables were turned on this night. Kansas City dominated possession for the better part of the game, preventing MSU from attempting a single shot on goal until the 33rd minute, and keeping Missouri State goalkeeper Jessica Perry under constant duress.

"In the history of the program this is the sixth time we’ve played them and they’ve all been close," said head coach Chris Cissell. "To be fair, I thought we should’ve had more goals and should have put the game away in the second half. But I think that's due in part to it being the first game with so many new players on the team playing in their first game."

LITTLE ROCK –(UALR Media Relations) Senior Ariel Galletti may not have started the first half of UALR’s season opener, but she sure finished it.

Galletti, who came off the bench with 20 minutes to go in the first half, scored three goals in a five-minute span as the Trojans rolled over Chicago State 7-0 at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex on Friday night.

Galletti’s hat trick was the first of her college career, and she moved up to 11th all-time at UALR with 34 career points thanks to her three-goal effort. The senior, who was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team last season, scored in the 36th, 37th and 41st minutes. Her hat trick was the first at UALR since Christina Veasley scored three goals against Denver in October 2009.

The game was Chicago State’s first ever as a program. UALR now begins the season 1-0 for the second consecutive year, and Friday night saw the team’s first ever win against a current team in the Western Athletic Conference.
