Idaho's Hannah Kiser and Arphaxad Carroll each came up short in their attempt to qualify for the NCAA Track and Field Championships during the final day of the 2014 NCAA Track and Field West Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday.
Kiser and Carroll were the final two WAC athletes vying for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, but neither was able to finish in the top 12 in their event. Kiser, a senior, placed 20th in the 5000-meters with a time of 16:36.67. Carroll placed 38th in the triple jump with a mark of 14.59m, a promising finish for the freshman.
Two WAC student-athletes will compete at the NCAA Championships. Idaho's Matt Sullivan qualified in the pole vault on the first day of the regional and Utah Valley's Michael McPherson qualified for the decathlon following his performance at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
11 WAC student-athletes attempted to qualify on Friday for the NCAA Championships at the 2014 NCAA Track and Field West Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Despite several close calls, none were able to join Idaho's Matt Sullivan (pole vault) and Utah Valley's Michael McPherson (decathlon) in qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Bakersfield junior Bryan Wilmert finished 26th in the hammer throw with a mark of 59.09m.
Idaho had three athletes compete on the day. Junior Ben Ayesu-Attah placed 22nd with a time of 47.16 in the semifinals of the men's 400-meters, just 0.9 seconds out of 12th place. Senior thrower Kyle Rothwell also finished in 22nd place in the hammer throw with a toss of 59.67m. Senior Alicia Butterworth, coming off a triple at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, did not finish her race in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase.
Kansas City had two athletes in competition on the day. Freshman Bryce Miller placed 36th in men's 3000-meter Steeplechase in the with a time of 9:14.06. Junior Shannelle Williams placed 31st in the women's 100-meter Hurdles with a time of 13.95.
New Mexico State's Alishia Perkins finished 34th in the women's 200-meters, running a time of 24.40.
Four Utah Valley Wolverines were in action on Friday. Sophomore Scott Moake finished 33rd in the high jump, while freshman Ryle Williams failed to record a height in the event. Sophomore Trac Norris placed 20th in the men's 3000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 8:57.76, while senior Brooke Hodson-Davies placed 44th in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:04.25.

The 2014 NCAA Track and Field West Regionals began on Thursday in Fayetteville, Arkansas, as 11 WAC student-athletes attempted to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Idaho had two athletes advance on day one of competition. Junior Matt Sullivan finished eighth in the pole vault, advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a mark of 5.26 meters. Junior Ben Ayesu-Attah qualfied for tomorrow's semifinals in the 400-meters, finishing 19th with a time of 46.87. Of the 24 athletes in the semifinals, 12 will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Idaho had two other competitors in action that failed to advance, as sophomore Tayler Feinauer placed 24th in the women's javelin with a throw of 44.99m and sophomore Andrey Levkiv ended up in 25th in the men's shot put with a toss of 17.19m.
New Mexico State senior Alishia Perkins placed 37th in the women's 100-meters, running a time of 11.99, but failed to advance. Perkins will race again on Friday in the women's 100-meter dash.
Seattle U's Dylan Burnett finished 18th in the men's javelin with a toss of 62.99m, just missing out of the second round of throws and failing to advance.
Texas-Pan American had three athletes compete on Thursday. Senior Martin Casse placed 31st in the men's 1500-meters with a time of 3:46.34, senior Dijan Johnson finished 35th in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.49 and junior Deandra Barroso finished 37th in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.74. None of the three advanced from the prelims.
Utah valley's Kyler Sprague, a freshman, finished in 46th in the men's 400-meter hurdles, while junior Michael McPherson placed 44th with a mark of 6.66m in the long jump. Niether advanced out of their event, but McPherson has already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the decathlon.
12 WAC athletes will be in action on Friday. Field events begin at 9:00 a.m. MT with the men's hammer throw and running events begin at 4:00 p.m. MT with the men's 110-meter hurdles.
15 men and eight women will represent the WAC at the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championships May 29-31.
The West region preliminary round will be held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The NCAA announced the entrants in both the West and the East regional (held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida) Thursday.
The top 12 finishers in each event at the regionals will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
Utah Valley's Michael McPherson qualified directly to the NCAA Championships in the decathlon, which doesn't have regional qualification.
