2014 All-WAC Baseball Honors Announced

DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference released its 2014 all-WAC baseball teams and postseason awards as selected by the league’s head coaches. Sacramento State junior infielder Rhys Hoskins was named the Player of the Year and Texas-Pan American senior Sam Street earned Pitcher of the Year honors. The Freshman of the Year award went to Sacramento State pitcher Sam Long. Sacramento State’s Reggie Christiansen was named WAC Coach of the Year.

Hoskins, a junior from Sacramento, Calif. (Jesuit HS), batted .360 in conference play and led the WAC with 32 RBI and six home runs during league play. He also earned First Team all-WAC honors. Hoskins was the 2012 WAC Freshman of the Year.

Street, a senior from Melbourne, Australia (St. Leonard’s College), earned the WAC’s Pitcher of the Year award. Street made eight starts during conference play, registering a 1.80 ERA. He recorded a 7-1 record during conference play with 46 strikeouts. He recorded eight complete games during WAC play.

Long, a native of Rancho Cordova, Calif. (Del Campo HS), compiled a perfect 5-0 record during conference play this season. He registered a 2.24 ERA with two complete games and two shutouts. He tallied 37 strikeouts in 56.1 innings during conference play.

Christiansen, in his fourth season in charge of the Hornets, was honored as the WAC Coach of the Year. Christiansen led Sacramento State to this year's regular season title. He also earned WAC Coach of the Year honors in 2012.
