Bakersfield competed at the Fresno State Bulldog Invitational on April 26 in Fresno, Calif. ... the women’s team finished the dual meet 3-3, with wins against Pacific, San José State, and Cal Poly and losses to UNLV, Cal State Northridge, and Fresno State ... the men also ended the dual meet 3-3, beating Pacific, SJSU, and UNLV and losing to Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly, and Fresno St. ... junior Alyssa Page improved her personal record in the 400m, shaving .02 of a second off of her best time in the 400m with a time of 56.78 ... Page’s performance is the fifth-fastest time in the WAC ... Karnell Grimes highlighted the day for the men’s team as the thrower earned a first place finish in the javelin ... CSUB is off until the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 14-17 in Orem, Utah.
Chicago State Cougars
Chicago sent men’s and women’s relay teams to the Drake Relays from April 24-26 ... the women’s team of Zhate Jackson, Pearl Chitava, Summer Allen and Shaquilla Jackson placed 10th in the 4x200-meter relay and 21st in the 4x100 ... on the men’s side, the 4x100 team took 29th, the 4x200 took 13th and the sprint medley relay team took 21st ... the Cougars were scheduled to attend the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kan., this weeknd, but the meet was cancelled ... the Cougars are not scheduled to compete again until the 2014 WAC Outdoor Track Championships in Orem, Utah, hosted by Utah Valley University.
Grand Canyon ‘Lopes
The Grand Canyon University track and field teams were off last week ... GCU competed at the Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational in California in its last action ... Shavine Hodges ran to a pair of WAC-best times in the 100-meter dash (11.64 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.71 seconds) at the Mt. SAC Relays ... in Long Beach, Jahliell Wiltshire improved on his conference-best time in the 110-meter hurdles (14.54 seconds) ... Akintunde Adeyemi posted a leap of 14.95 meters in the triple jump, marking the furthest distance in the conference in the event this season ... Tyler Vandyke ran to a first-place finish in the 10,000-meter run (30:43.93) ... Kirk Gould broke a school record in the javelin throw (56.57 meters) ... the ‘Lopes will be back in action this weekend, heading to California for the Steve Scott Invitational Friday and Saturday in Irvine.
Idaho concluded the Cougar Invitational with 10 individual wins – with two vandals reigning double champions over the meet ... senior Karlene Hurrel was first across the finish line in the 100m with a wind-aided time of 12.23; she also placed first in the 200m with a wind-aided time of 24.65 ... junior Ben Ayesu-Attah also earned a double over the day, finishing first in the 400m with a time of 47.89, and tied for the first-place spot in the 200m with a wind-aided time of 21.50 ... freshman Adara Winder placed first in the shot put with a heave of 46-11.75 (14.32m) followed by freshman Ana Pardo in second with a mark of 46-1.25 (14.05m) ... senior Andrey Levkiv calimed a first-place finish in the shot put (57-1.50, 17.41m) ... this week, the Vandals compete Friday at the Oregon State High Performance Meet at Corvallis, Ore., and Sunday at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Palo Alto, Calif.
Kansas City Kangaroos
Kansas City competed at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, from April 23-25 and the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invite in Joplin, Mo., on April 23 ... Blake Hocking’s toss of 56-2 (17.12m) was good for second place in the shot put, 41st in the west region and broke Josh Whisman’s school record set in 2002 ... Bryce Miller broke his own school record set last week in the 3,000m with a time of 9:01.37, good for 36th in the west region ... both marks are tops in the WAC this season ... sophomore Kelsey Benoit claimed the title in the hammer throw with a toss of 161-11 and placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44-4.75 ... freshman Becca Hasenkamp won the javelin with a throw of 116-06 ... sophomore Yasmin Musaddiq finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 157-6 ... this week, the ‘Roos will close out the regular season on Saturday at the Twilight Classic in Little Rock, Ark.
New Mexico State Aggies
The Aggies come off competition at the Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston, Texas ... the Aggies were led by sophomore Latrice Brooks who competed in the 800-meter run and finished third with a time of 2:12.30 ... Brooks also competed in the 4x400-meter relay ... freshman Akuadasou Ezenyilimba had a strong performance as she competed in the discus, shot put and hammer throw ... her highest finish was in the discus where she finished fourth with a throw of 45.12m (148-00) ... Ezenyilimba is among the top 10 freshman in the country for the hammer throw event according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association’s under 20 list ... the Aggies travel to Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday for the Don Kirby Invitational ... this marks the first meet of the 2014 outdoor season that the Aggies have not traveled to Texas to compete.
Seattle University Redhawks
The Redhawks travelled to the WWU Ralph Vernacchia Meet on Saturday in Bellingham, Wash. ... Bethany Richards broke her own school record in the women’s hammer throw, finishing fifth in the event with a mark of 48.02 meters (157’ 6”) ... Nick Bever finished second in the men’s triple jump with a school-record mark of 13.45m (44’ 1.5”) ... Valerie Wu finished sixth in the women’s long jump with a mark of 4.82m (15’ 9.75”) ... . Mariah Gibbs finished fourth in the 100m hurdles in 15.54 seconds and fifth in the triple jump at 10.49 meters (34’ 5”) ... Sophie Curatilo was just 1.5 seconds off her school record in the 5000m, finishing second in 17:34.82 ... this week, the Redhawks travel to Corvallis, Ore., for the Oregon State University High Performance Meet at the Whyte Track and Field Center on Friday.
Texas-Pan American Broncs
The Broncs competed at the Fred Duckett Twilight, hosted by Rice University on April 26... Deandra Barroso won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.98 seconds ... her time ranks second in program history and is a career-best ... the Broncs posted 17 other top-10 finishes at the twilight ... sophomore Geneva Anderson added a sixth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.26 and sophomore Stephanie Vazquez finished in 10th with a time of 1:05.63 ... freshman Cristina Santiago Bravo finished in third place with a throw of 52.33 meters in the women’s hammer throw ... senior Dijan Johnson posted a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.31 seconds ... this week, the Broncs travel to San Antonio for the Roadrunner Invitational on Friday.
Utah Valley Wolverines
The Wolverines competed in Provo, Utah at the BYU Robison Invitational on April 26 ... senior Ali Shields had a big weekend for the women’s team last week as she placed third in both the triple jump (11.45m or 37’-06.75”) and the 100m hurdles (15.02), as well as fourth in the long jump with a personal record of 5.73m (18’-09.50”) ... Shields’ leap in the long jump is also good enough for tops in the WAC this season ... sophomore Sam Sweet won the women’s 400m dash with a time of 57.35 seconds ... junior Michael McPherson, sophomore Mike Keith and senior Marcus Pratt led the way for the men’s team by taking second in the long jump (7.07m or 23’-02.25”), third in the 400m (49.76) and seventh in the pole vault (4.75m or 15’07”), respectively ... this week, the Wolverines head back to Provo for the BYU Cougar Classic.
