Seattle U's Barkhaus Voted Third Team Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. - Seattle U's Erik Barkhaus was voted on the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team for Division I men's cross country and track and field on Thursday, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Barkhaus won the 2012 men's cross country individual title at the WAC Championship meet in Ruston, La., this past season with a time of 24:02.90 on the 8k course. Running in the men's 10,000m run at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Barkhaus earned second team All-WAC honors. He finished sixth with a time of 32:33.20.

In the classroom Barkhaus finished his academic career with a bachelor's degree in finance, recording a 3.502 GPA. In the 2012-13 academic year, Barkhaus earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as well as being a two time Academic All-WAC honoree.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
