EUGENE, Ore. - (Day Four) Texas State's Kelsey Titzman recorded new personal best distance in the women's shot put on Saturday at the Historic Hayward Field. Titzman threw for a distance of 16.60m (54-05.5). She finished 0.23m behind eighth place Dani Bunch from Purdue whose best throw was for 16.83m on her first throw.

Utah State's Chari Hawkins concluded competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Finals on Saturday. Hawkins cleared a height of 1.72m (5-07.75) in the women's high jump, placing in a tie for 21st. She entered the finals tied for 13th and was tied for third after the first round with a jump of 1.79m (5-10.50). 

The only WAC athletes in action Friday were the women's multi competitors. Utah State's Chari Hawkins and Texas State's Danessa Lyssy took to Historic Hayward Field for the final day of the women's heptathlon.

Hawkins started the day out in 12th, going into the long jump. The Agggie flew a distance of 5.84m (19-02) to finish the event in 14th. The final two events of the heptathlon saw Hawkins set new personal-best marks. In the javelin Hawkins recorded a toss of 41.03m (134-07) to finish eighth, and then ran a personal-best time of 2:25.70 in the 800m to finish 18th. In the overall standings Hawkins moved up one spot to finish 11th with 5,598 points.

Lyssy began the day 17th after the first day of competition. In the long jump she finished 22nd with a leap of 5.48m (17-11.75). Lyssy launched a throw of 36.82m (120-9) to place 15th in the javelin. In the final portion of the heptathlon, Lyssy ran a 2:30.79 800m time to finish 23rd in the final event. Lyssy ended the heptathlon 22nd overall with 5,294 points. 

UT Arlington's Romain Martin finished sixth in the decathlon with a school-record and personal-best total of 8,013 points. He finished shy of breaking the WAC record set in 1981 by BYU's Tito Steiner (8,279). Martin turned in a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles (14.27) in the decathlon’s first event of the day. 

The women's multi events got started on Thursday. Texas State's Danessa Lyssy and Utah State's Chari Hawkins were both in action. Hawkins is the top WAC athlete in the standings after the first four events. She accumulated 3,362 points on the day, placing her 12th. Lyssy, the 2013 WAC heptathlon champion, finished the day in 17th with 3,309 points. 

Texas State's Timothy Young ran the 110m hurdles in a time of 13.867, placing him 14th. In the women's 100m hurdles, Louisiana Tech's Kim Francis finished 21st with a time of 13.34.

Idaho's Jeremy Klas began the day seeded 12th in the men's pole vault and finished the day six spots better. Klas cleared a height of 5.50m (18-0.5) a new Idaho school-record, placing him sixth overall. Liga Velvere, also in action for the Vandals, circled Historic Hayward Field for a time of 59.28 in the women's 400m hurdles, good enough for a 14th-place finish. 

The men's decathlon featured one WAC student-athlete in the field of 24. UT Arlington's Romain Martin, the 2013 WAC Decathlon champion, sits in fourth after Wednesday's events. Martin totaled 4,206 points on the first day. He opened with a time of 10.93 to finish ninth in the 100 meters. He followed that up with an eighth-place showing in the long jump (7.38m/24-2.5). Martin finished third in both the shot put (14.50m (47-7) and the high jump (2.05m (6-8.75). UTA saw Ashly Wright run a 2:14.45 to place 23rd in the 800 meters. Bozidar Antunovic was scratched from the shot put.

In the marquee events of day one, Utah State's Will Henry earned a 16th-place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 10.25. Louisiana Tech's men's 4x100 relay team made up of Devin Henderson, Trey Hadnot, Niko Richey and Dennis Richardson finished seventh in its heat and 12th overall, running a time of 39.71. 

In the men's 400m hurdles, UTSA's Joshua Smith crossed the finish in 51.27 (13th) and LA Tech's Yusuf Muhammad finished a few runners back with a time of 52.16 (18th).

The Western Athletic Conference will be represented by 14 individuals and one relay team at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet begins Wednesday, June 5, and will run through Saturday, June 8, at the Historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. The meet will be broadcasted across the Pac 12 and ESPN networks. Live results will also be made available online.
