DENVER--The WAC's regular season concluded Sunday and the seeds are now set for the upcoming WAC Baseball Tournament in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The tournament, which takes place at QuikTrip Ballpark May 22-26 in Grand Prairie, Texas, will feature the league's top eight teams from the regular season.
CSU Bakersfield earned the tournament's top seed and will play eighth-seeded San Jose State on Wednesday. UT Arlington will be the No. 2 seed and will take on No. 7 Dallas Baptist in Wednesday's night game.
Texas State is the No. 3 seed, followed by UTSA (No. 4), Sacramento State (No. 5), New Mexico State (No. 6), Dallas Baptist (No. 7), and San Jose State (No. 8).
The tournament will begin on Wednesday, May 22 with No. 4 UTSA taking on No. 5 Sacramento State at 11 a.m. (CT). No. 1 CSU Bakersfield will play No. 8 San Jose State at 3 p.m., and No. 2 UT Arlington takes on No. 7 Dallas Baptist in the nightcap Wednesday at 7 p.m.
San Jose State 8, CSU Bakersfield 5
San Jose, Calif. – San Jose State regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning with a five-run rally and defeated CSU Bakersfield 8-5 on Sunday in the final regular-season game at Municipal Stadium.
The Spartans (17-38, 11-16 WAC) took two out of three games from the first-place Roadrunners and punched their ticket to the Western Athletic Conference Championship Tournament with Sunday’s win.
“This feels really good,” said San Jose State head coach Dave Nakama. “Our goal was to get into the WAC Tournament and we’ve done it. It was tough with the pressure to win today’s game and the guys got it done.”
