SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose State scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat league-leader CSU Bakersfield 2-1 at Municipal Stadium.

Nick Schulz singled to right in the ninth and then scored on a single by Daquioag to tie the game 1-1. Sheldon Daquioag then scored the winning run on a Dane Lund single.

David Wayne Russo stuck out seven while giving up only one run in 7.0 innings of work on the mound to help San Jose State to the win. Andre Mercurio and Lund each went 2-for-4 at the plate in the win.

UT Arlington 3, Sacramento State 2

SACRAMENTO, California – (UTA Media Relations) Matt Shortall delivered again and UT Arlington locked down no worse than second place in the Western Athletic Conference with Friday afternoon's 3-2 win over Sacramento State at John Smith Field.

The Mavericks (29-25) improved to 17-9 in the league and clinched at least the No. 2 seed in next week's WAC Tournament. UT Arlington still has an outside chance to win the regular-season title, depending on how first-place CSU Bakersfield fares this weekend.

The Mavericks go for the sweep over the Hornets (33-22, 14-12) in Sunday's third game of the series, which also concludes the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.

UTSA 13, Louisiana Tech 2 (7)

RUSTON, La. — (UTSA Media Relations) UTSA scored in only three innings, but the Roadrunners plated multiple runs in each of the three panels en route to a 13-2 run-rule victory in seven frames over Louisiana Tech to clinch the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series on Saturday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

UTSA (30-23, 14-11 WAC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit by plating four runs in the fourth, five in the sixth and seven more in the seventh to close out the contest.

The Bulldogs (19-36, 6-20 WAC), however, managed only one more tally, a fourth-inning score, after taking the early lead.

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- (DBU Media Relations) Duncan McAlpine's record-setting 46th career homerun came as part of a seventh inning surge for the Dallas Baptist Patriots (28-27, 13-13) on their way to a 12-5 win over Texas State (26-28, 15-11) on Saturday in San Marcos, Texas. Clinging to a two-run lead at the time, McAlpine drove a pitch from relief pitcher Covey Morrow over the rightcenter wall at Bobcat Ballpark to score Boomer Collins, who had singled, and pinch runner RJ Talamantes. That pushed the lead to five and three more runs in the eighth put the game out of reach as Drew Smith threw a career-high 3.2 innings in relief of starter Jake Johansen (6-6), who picked up the win in 5.1 innings.

BELLEVUE, Wash. – (NMSU Media Relations) Senior Ryan Beck became the second New Mexico State pitcher to mark 300 strikeouts in a career as the Aggies bounced back and defeated Seattle U 4-0 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, Wash., Friday, May 17.

Beck entered the game in the top of the seventh after starting pitcher Christopher Bradley worked 6.1 innings and marked six strikeouts while giving up just three hits. Beck’s 300th strikeout came against the first batter he faced, while he finished the day with three K’s totally 302 on his career. He needs 21 more strikeouts to break the school record, which is held by former Aggie Gary Goldsmith who played from 1990-93.
