2012-13 Academic All-District At-Large Honorees

DENVER - Six WAC student-athletes were named to the Capitol One Academic All-District at-large first teams. To be nominated, a student-athlete must have a 3.30 or better grade point average and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.  The honor is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). All six student-athletes are now eligible for the All-America teams that will be selected later this month.

San Jose State junior swimmer Darcie Anderson, was named to the All-District Women's At Large Team for District VIII for the second consecutive season. The breaststroke specialist helped the Spartans their second straight WAC Title in pool, while holding a 3.97 GPA in Kinesiology.

Utah State junior golfer Tanner Higham, a nutrition, dietetics and food sciences major was voted to the Men's All-District At Large Team for District VIII. Higham played 28 rounds and had a team-best scoring average of 73.57 on the links. In the classroom he boasts a 3.98 GPA.

Southern Utah beam specialist Caitlin Kennedy averaged a 9.760 on the balance beam in 2013. She had posted a season best 9.850 at three meets this season. The graduate student holds a 4.00 GPA in exercise sciences.

Also honored in District VIII was Northern Arizona junior swimmer Rachel Palmer. The Lumberjacks school-record holder in the 200 butterfly, 800 freestyle relay, and the 400 medley relay, helped her team to the top of the podium in the 400 medley relay this year in San Antonio. Out of the water, Palmer excels in her health sciences major with a 3.96 GPA.

North Dakota senior swimmer Veronica Mendon, swam the second fastest time in the WAC in the 200 backstroke (1:57.30) in 2013. She medaled in both the 100 and 200 backstroke at the WAC Championships. The backstroke specialist was voted to the District VI At-Large Team, majoring in psychology 4.00 GPA. 

Texas State senior golfer Krista Puisite, led the WAC this year with a season low stroke average of 72.40. She finished tied for sixth at the WAC Championship, carding a three-round total of 223. Off the links Puisite enjoys a 3.90 GPA. The business major was voted to the At-Large Team in District VII.
