WAC Baseball Players of the Week Announced

DENVER – New Mexico State infielder Robert Lecount and CSU Bakersfield left-hander Jeff McKenzie have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 29-May 5.

Lecount, a senior from Shoreline, Wash. (Shorewood HS), led the Aggies to a 3-0 series sweep over San Jose State. Lecount hit .556 (5-for-9) on the week while striking out just once and walking four times. He also hit three home runs, including two in the opening game of the series when he went 3-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored. He finished the week with 10 RBI, a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .692 on-base percentage, while marking a 1.000 fielding percentage at third base. Lecount hit his third home run of the week in a 9-0 win on Saturday. In Sunday’s series finale against SJSU, Lecount picked up a two-RBI single in the seventh when the Aggies came from behind to win 8-5, securing the series sweep.

McKenzie, a senior from El Dorado Hills, Calif. (San Joaquin Delta College), improved to 11-1 on the season as he recorded his fourth complete game shutout of the season to lead Bakersfield past Louisiana Tech 2-0 on Friday in Ruston. The 6-0 lefty scattered three hits as he struck out five while only walking one. McKenzie only faced four over the minimum and allowed only one runner to reach second base.
