WAC Softball Hitter, Pitcher of the Week Announced

DENVER – Utah State’s Christine Thomsen and San Jose State’s Amanda Pridmore have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 15-21. This is the second honor of the season and her career for Thomsen and fourth of the season and fifth of her career for Pridmore.

Thomsen, a senior infielder from Fresno, Calif., posted a staggering .737 batting average last week, with multiple hits in all six games. She helped power USU to its second WAC series win of the season as she went 2-for-3 in Friday’s series opening loss to Louisiana Tech. In Friday’s nightcap, Thomsen was 3-for-4 and scored a run en route to an 8-4 win. In the series finale, she went 3-for-4 and scored a run to help seal the win. Earlier in the week in non-conference play, she went 2-for-3 and scored a run against Utah Valley, 2-for-3 with one RBI vs. Utah, and 2-for-2 with a double and two walks against Southern Utah.

Pridmore, a senior from Modesto, Calif., went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts last week as the Spartans swept the series against UT Arlington. She opened the week with a complete-game victory over the Mavericks, striking out 11 over 14 innings and tying the San Jose State record for innings pitched in a game. It was the eighth game this season in which Pridmore struck out eight or more batters. In the series finale, she threw three innings in relief to pick up the win, allowing one hit and striking out three. For the week, Pridmore held opponents to a .158 batting average.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Louisiana Tech’s Amanda Krueger hit .667 with four RBI ... Malena Padilla of New Mexico State hit .400 with a home run and two RBI ... San Jose State’s Michelle Cox hit .444 with four stolen bases on the week ... Rogin Hardy of Seattle U hit .500 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI ... UT Arlington’s Nina Villanueva hit .462 with one RBI and one stolen base ... Darian Blake of UTSA hit .500 with a double and one RBI ... Texas State’s Macie Hair hit .500 with one RBI.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: New Mexico State’s Alex Newman went 1-1 with a 0.93 ERA and eight strikeouts ... Richelle Ashburn of Seattle U went 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA ... UT Arlington’s Teri Lyles went 0-2 with a 1.38 ERA and six strikeouts ... Mandy Harmon of Utah State went 2-1 with a 2.92 ERA and 25 strikeouts last week.
