DENVER – New Mexico State third baseman Robert Lecount and Sacramento State right-hander Sutter McLoughlin have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 1-7.

Lecount, a senior from Shoreline, Wash. (Shorewood HS), led the Aggies to three wins last week including a 10-5 win over in-state rival New Mexico and two wins over Dallas Baptist. Lecount hit .462 (6-for-13). He tallied six walks, nine RBI, two home runs, a double, a triple and scored six runs. His extra base hits equated to a 1.154 slugging percentage on the week, while his six walks helped him tally a .650 on-base percentage for the four games. Lecount reached safely at least once in every game last week and extended his hitting streak to five games. He tallied a solo home run against UNM in a midweek game, before he opened the WAC series against DBU going 2-for-3 with a season-high five RBIs in a 16-5 seven-inning win. He tallied his second consecutive 2-for-3 day against the Patriots as he led NM State to a 7-5 victory in game two to clinch the series. That day he also had a double, a walk and a run scored.  He finished the week going 1-for-2 with three walks as the Aggies fell short on a comeback attempt losing 12-10 in 10 innings.

McLoughlin, a freshman from Sacramento, Calif. (Rio Americano HS), converted all four of his save opportunities during the week, including all three in a sweep over Texas State. The true freshman wrapped up the series against the Bobcats by entering the game with runners on first and second with no outs. After a sacrifice, he intentionally walked a hitter before forcing a double play. McLoughlin now has eight saves on the season which is tied for third in school single-season history. On the week, McLoughlin pitched 4.0 innings in four appearances. He collected four saves in four opportunities and recorded one strikeout. He gave up only one hit and did not allow an earned run.
