WAC Menís Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Utah State’s Briton Page and UT Arlington’s Romain Martin were named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 25-31.
Page, a freshman from Centerville, Utah (Viewmont H.S.), ran the fourth-fastest time in school history in the men’s 800m (1:49.64) as he placed third at the Stanford Invitational this past weekend. Page ranks eighth in the nation for the men’s 800m, along with ranking fifth on the West qualifying list for the season. The time is also the fastest for the event in the Western Athletic Conference this season.
Martin, a senior from Le Mans, France (EGC), was the runner up in the decathlon at the prestigious Texas Relays for the second straight year. He totaled 7,904 points, which ranks second nationally this season. His score was just 73 points shy of his school record and is nearly 1,200 points higher than the next closest WAC competitor. Martin won two events during the decathlon. He won the high jump clearing 2.05m (6-08.75) and the 110m hurdles (14.37). Martin recorded four top-five WAC marks in individual events while competing in the decathlon. He ranks second in the 110m hurdles, high jump and javelin and is fifth in the WAC in the pole vault.
Other track nominees included: Idaho senior Barry Britt, Louisiana Tech sophomore Paul Sakit, Texas State junior Raymond Hatton and UT Arlington sophomore Emil Blomberg.
Other field nominees included: Idaho sophomore Matt Sullivan, UTSA senior Roscoe Robinson and Utah State sophomore Michael Cardinal.
