WAC Tennis Players of the Week Announced
DENVER – Denver’s Fabio Biasion and San Jose State’s Julianna Bacelar have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Mar. 25-31.
Biasion, a senior from Velbert, Germany (Helmholte Gymnasium), earned his fifth singles win on the season, defeating Alexander Gryaznov, 6-2, 6-1. The Pioneers edged UC Santa Barbara, 4-3. In doubles play Biasion teamed with partner Max Krammer in the No. 2 spot to earn the 9-8(3) win over the Gauchos duo of Benjamin Recknagel and Axel Bouillin. Biasion and Krammer improved to 4-1 in doubles play.
A sophomore from Goiania, Brazil (Ventura College), went 6-0 in singles and doubles over the three day conference match competition. She helped San Jose State to a 13-4, 5-0 WAC record. Against Seattle U, Bacelar won in straight sets against Corrine Wurden in the No. 4 singles, defeating her 6-0, 6-1. Bacelar partnered with Chau Truong in No. 2 doubles to defeat the Redhawk duo of Wurden and Kristen James, 8-3. In singles against UT Arlington, Bacelar won 6-2, 6-0, while her doubles match was unfinished. To wrap up the week against Texas State, Baclear fended off Rachel Baldree, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. She again partnered with Truong to win 8-3 in their No. 3 doubles match.
