WAC Menís Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Texas State’s Larron Black and UT Arlington’s Quentin Butler were named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 18-24.
Black, a freshman from Mansfield, Texas (Mansfield Summit H.S.), won the 400m hurdles at the Texas State Elite meet with his time of 51.76. His time comes in as the second-best in the WAC. Black’s time also lands seventh in the NCAA overall.
Butler, a sophomore from Corpus Christi, Texas (West Oso H.S.), won the long jump at the Bobby Lane Invitaitonal with a leap of 7.33m (24-00.75). His jump ranks 18th in the nation and is seventh on the NCAA West Outdoor Qualifying List. It is the second-best jump in the WAC this season, just .25 inches the top mark.
Other track nominees included: Idaho freshman Santos Vargas, Louisiana Tech sophomore Paul Sakit and UT Arlington junior Aaron Purser.
Other field nominees included: Idaho senior Joseph Charles, Louisiana Tech sophomore Devin Henderson, UTSA junior Kerry Thompson and Texas State freshman Derrick Randle.
