WAC NOTESDENVER (3-11, 0-0)
The University of Denver men’s tennis team was defeated by UAB 4-1 on the third day of the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic ... the Pioneers were defeated in two of three doubles matches, and trailed UAB 1-0 going into singles play ... Pioneer senior Enej Bonin and UAB’s David Zimmerman split sets 6-2, 4-6 before their match was called ... Jens Vorkefeld picked up the Pioneers only singles victory, defeating Tom Puetz 6-2, 6-0 ... the Pioneers also fell to No. 20 Drake and No. 38 San Diego at the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic.
IDAHO (17-2, 2-0)
The No. 62 Idaho men’s tennis team wrapped up the Boise State Tournament with a win over Utah and a loss to No. 46 Boise State. Idaho moves to 17-2 on the season ... Idaho won 4-1 against Utah as the Vandals got wins at the top two doubles spots, before winning the top three singles matches ... No. 122 Dmitry Perevoshchikov won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to clinch the match after Abid Akbar won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 and Marius Cirstea won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Cristobal Ramos Salazar lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6, and Jose Bendeck and Cesar Torres didn’t finish their No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches ... Idaho’s loss to Boise State was a tight match throughout ... Jose Bendeck won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4, but it wasn’t enough, as the Vandals suffered just their second loss of the season.
NEW MEXICO STATE (9-5, 1-0)
The New Mexico State men’s tennis team was knocked off 7-0 by the No. 42 Texas Tech Red Raiders ... NM State moves to 9-5 on the season ... the Aggies were swept the Red Raiders in doubles play, but senior Luis Ramirez and junior Marc Westgate battled at the first court before eventually falling 8-6 ... Ramirez and Westgate each took their Texas Tech opponent to three sets before giving up the points at the first and fourth courts ... earlier in the week NM State knocked off UT Permian Basin, 7-0.
SEATTLE U (1-14, 0-1)
The Seattle University men’s tennis squad had a busy day Monday, playing two matches at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nev. ... the Redhawks began the day with a tight 4-3 match against Western New Mexico ... in the afternoon session, the Redhawks fell 6-1 to Youngstown State ... earlier in the week the Redhawks put together a 7-0 win over Southern Utah ... Seattle University will wrap up its time in Las Vegas with a contest against in-state rival Eastern Washington.
UT ARLINGTON (6-8, 0-1)
The men’s tennis team fell to No. 32 Columbia 4-0 ... with the loss the men drop to 6-8 overall and remain 0-1 in the Western Athletic Conference ... Columbia took three single points from Carlos Arbiza, Sebastian Erimicioiu and Sebastian Gomez to win the match 4-0 ... the men are back in actions Thursday, March 28 at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center as they take on Marquette.
UTSA (8-8, 0-0)
Abilene Christian rallied to edge UTSA, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club ... UTSA managed its lone singles victories at the Nos. 2 and 4 positions ... Diogo Casa won his match at the second spot with a 7-5, 6-3 decision, while Tyler Brown netted a 6-1, 6-4 win at fourth singles ... the Roadrunners will return to action on Saturday, March 30, when they open Western Athletic Conference play at UT Arlington.
Utah State men’s tennis defeated Lamar at home, 6-1, on Saturday at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club ... the Aggies, who improve to 5-7 on the season including 4-1 at home, swept the doubles competition and won five of the six singles matches ... Sven Poslusny defeated Rob Lee in straight sets at the No. 1 spot (6-2, 7-6) ... at the No. 2 spot, junior Fredrik Peterson took down Carl Philip Lindquist in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 7-6) ... Utah State will return to action next weekend when it faces UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, March 27 at 1 p.m., in Boise, Idaho ... USU will then play at Boise State on Thursday, March 28 also at 1 p.m.
